Is right now a good time to buy 9800s? are prices going to drop in the NEAR future?

i wouldn't buy a 9800 right now...although it is the fastest graphic card on the market...the ideas are still new and better cores from ATI are coming VERY soon...if you don't have a real reason to upgrade right now, I would wait it out

wonder iif i can ovr clock my 9800 PRO to the R420 speeds :) It IS suposed to be twice as fast though, makes me want to sell mine and wait for that one, but with F***ING computers you jsut cant win :)

even with a geforce2...you could save money by picking up a cheap geforce3 or something (you can find those for 30 bucks or less)...this will allow you to save money for the BIG one...so instead of shelling out 3 or 400 bucks...save for the next cards that will play Doom ]l[ at high framerates...those are just around the corner

EDIT: Also you I do not know what your system consists of. Having a VERY fast GPU may not help you if you have a very slow CPU.

twice as fast compared to what? ATI's top end cards are already executing games so well that if it does get any better you're not going to notice a difference unless you run synthetics all day.

there isn't an official release of any software that can really tax the high end cards being made today.

Id wait a while ATI might be releasing a new card to compete with the FX5900 ultras which are the current preformance kings

You're just asking for trouble with that statement.

gf3 for 30 or less....i know there cheap but ahhh, 50 would be a steal...

also I couldn't justify buying a 9800p or np with the huge price jump and small performance jump over the 9700's. I personaly don't think the price jump of a decent OCable ti4200 128mb is worth a 9700 but some will disagree with that. I had a 8500le and it's just now finaly not being able to play games with full detail flawlessly so i'm upgrading, a ti4200 woulda worked but i figured for 140 i'd take a shot at the 9500-9700 thing.

As far as waiting for stuff....well yeah sure wait for the new ATI card....then wait for the nvidia card, or improved ATI card...then wait for hell to freeze over, you can see where i'm going with this. Buy a card now, you seem to not upgrade too foten so i'd say go witha 9700p, if you want to upgrade a lot try your chances at a 9500 or get a ti4200. I like messing with stuff so i go mid grade more often so i can get more cards and always have an up to date machine.

this is why you'll be stuck with your 9500 for years to come...

exactly, see ill wait for that new one to come out... prices drop some... but wait OOHHH a ATI ***** is coming out, must wait, you will never be able to buy the best of everything everytime it comes out, unless your are very rich... which i am not... the cpu with either be a 2.8C or 3.0C (hopefully ill get my hands on one for wholesale prices):D
