i recently removed the old thermal grease from my athlon with nail polish remover and then put a thin layer of arctic silver II over the chip

but now when i turn the puter on nothing happens and there is a kinda of crackly noise coming from inside the computer

have i blown the chip???

is there anyway the chip would come under warranty?

any help is greatly appreciated

Hopefully you only put the Arctic Silver on the CPU slug, and didn't spread over the entire chip. If you did, you probably fried the CPU. Here's a quote from the Arctic Silver Web site:

"While much safer than electrically conductive silver and copper greases, Arctic Silver II should be keep away from electrical traces, pins, and leads. The compound is slightly capacitive and could potentially cause problems if it bridged two close-proximity electrical paths."

i only put the arctic silver over the little cpu bit at the back of the chip

my main worry is that it took a while for me to get the super orb back on.
i'm worried that i may have damaged the chip :(
i'm not positive but
