I used the method of installing the Zalman heatsink, using the existing "chrome" ring and snapin attachment. Worked fine for 5 or 6 days.
Then, this morning, I hear a mechanical noise from inside the computer. It seems that the extra pressure on the snap attachment had pulled out two of the hooks from the mainboard.
I could have attempted to solder them back in, but, being lazy, I used the thermal cement that was included in the package.
Right now, it is still curing. I know I won't have the cooling of AS3, but I think the alternative would have been ruining the motherboard.
I should have filed down the stumps of the heatsink pins which I cut off.
