View Full Version : Safe AMD T-Bird temp

I contacted AMD techs as I had a concern of the temp that my non-overclocked Tbird 900 was running..54C at idle, with the AMD retail heatsink. They told me that 54C was well within the recommended heat range and their chip was good up to 90 degrees Celcius. I thought that was a bit too high, but I got that right from the AMD techs mouth. They said they are made to run at higher temps than the Intel users are used to.
Now I feel more confident in these higher temps with the Tbird, but I also see things written about how you can fry one of their CPUs in a few seconds if no heatsink is on the chip at all, so they certainly are not heat proof, but I don't think too many people will have lack of cooling enough to get near 90C.
Sure they will run at elevated temperatures, but how well? If you are looking to OC, you really should strive to get that temp down some. Just my $.02 worth

I agree get that processor down it looks like you could get into the high thirtys in temp. This being the best you could do would be way better than 52.Remember as a tech he too needs you to buy another processor for his job security. Not that he is a bad dude or anything but I guess you could go to work with a 104 degree fever and work ok as well. The lower the better stock or overclocked.

I realize the cooler the better, I only wrote that post because there were so many people wining on here about their high temps so I thought I would put them to ease a bit on the temp thing. Obviously if your system is unstable or not even getting through a boot than it must be too hot, but i don't need to get beat up over letting people know what the AMD tech had to say. I personally don't care any more about the temp of their chips since I bought retail I will be covered if my CPU f**ks up!

My intel is running @53C, i agree 90C is simply a joke. i would be frightened if it got over 60C personally, I wouldnt want it to get much hotter than this mind you but im fine with this temp, Mr.B suggested some arctic silver and i swear Mr.B if i ever get some money i'll spend it on that.
i can bet an tbird will not boot at all at anything higher than 60c.
I have a TB and it'll not boot if higher than 130F (you can do the math conversion to celsius). That's pretty close to 60C.
Like another person said. It wont boot if CPU boots over 60C because mine is below that and it has heat problem.
Maybe you are talking about classic athlon and not TB. I have seen classic athlon around the ranges you just described overclocked but not TB.
