Well last thursday i was re-installing my w/c setup after fixing a few leaks it developed after moving it 260 miles... and i was lazy and was tyrign to install teh waterblock form an akward angle and chipped the core of my 1700... so i'm in teh market for a new proc... I was lookignat getting another 1700 or maybe a 2500 barton...

I'm pretty sure the 1700 woudl be limited to about 2350 mhz because my motherboard does not have pci lock or selectable multipliers above 12.5... I don't really want to get a new board right now either... so i figured about 2300 based on my last chip...

but i also am entertaining the thought of getting a 2500+ barton, i did not know how high an O/C i could expect an if it would be much if any faster than a 1700 at 2300? and in yoru opinions would it be worth the extra money to go with a barton?

thanks!!

well there both gonna be limited at the same clock speed cuz of your board. Clock for clock the barton is faster, but it seems people (especialy WCing) are getting thier 1700's higher than the 2500's. The difference in speeds makes the 1700 a faster chip even with it's 256k cache. Also it's cheaper as well. I'd head to excaliberPC and buy a DLT3C XP1700 and start saving for some PC3200+ and a nf7-S :D

I have purchased many JIUHB DLT3C from excaliber, they are good people. But the CPU cost $72, back in March they were charging only $44 before selling STEPPING became popular.

I have taken the JIUHB DLT3C to 2.7 without heavy breathing. My Folding RIG: Epox 8RDA+, 1700+ JIUHB DLT3C "0307", OCZ Dual Channel P3200, 9500 120mb, 160gb 8mb cached 7200rpm ATA133, Leadman 550PSU, Swiftec 462

But I am getting impressed with the 1700+ DLT3C AIUGA. I popped one out last week and it jumbed to 2.3ghz with ease. And pushed my stock 9500 to 13585 3D Mk2001SE. From here, things will take more effort, but I'm already impressed.
