I have read that penciling the bridges can degrade over time and need to be redone. I would like to survey you to get an idea what overclockers.com readers are experiencing. Please reply wether or not it has been reliable for you...

Thanks...

it worked great for 2 weeks at a time. I re-did the lines about 4 times and then figured my time was worth more than 8 dollars so I bought the defogger kit and did it once since then.

I've done it both ways and find each acceptable. I prefer the "defogger" kit though, more permanent. I've also removed the defogger traces with little trouble.
Keep in mind that the bridges are very small. My 40+ eyeballs aren't what they were a couple of years ago, I had to use a bright light and a magnifying glass along with my bi-focals to get them.

Disregard my signature, that was last week. Now @1050MHz

why not change signature? yeah i had to use a 60 watt bulb right by my workstation and a magnifing glass and a bit of luck, screwed up the 1st time but rubbing alchohol took care of that.

Pencilled the bridges on my Duron 600 the first week of January and all is still well. I used a soft lead, no-name pencil and magnifying glass. Did a bridge, blew away excess lead, redid it, blew away excess. Repeat for all bridges. Worked first time.

The word on the street, (other forums actually) that the pencil trick dosn't last forever, and will need to be redone at some point. The guys appear to be leaning more towards the defogger or conductive pen. Reason is, everytime you have to remove / replace the HSF, you take a chance of damaging the processor, as well as a pain in the gazoo to redo it after the system is up and running.

did mine last year some time.. think it was october.. fine. no problems whatsoever. cleaned them off about 3 weeks ago to see if the first time wasn't a fluke, and redid them. no problem whatsoever. did my mate's tbird 750. also no problem with his in the few weeks since i did it. works fine for me.

the first time i used my gf's mechanical pencil.. mine didn't have lead.. it was 0.5mm HB lead. not sure of the make, but it would probably have been Faber Castell or Staedler. the second time i used my 0.5mm mechanical pencil with some wierd-ass Mon Ami lead with an F rating.. never heard of F before personally, but it was in the H rack at the shop and they didn't have anything else. both are fine it seems to me.
