I've searched and high and low in all the forums befor asking questions like this, but I just cant find an exact answer. So, this is my first time at an overclock and I must say I'm definitely hooked already and I havent even got it to overclock, yet! Anyway, it has the VIA mvp3 set, with cpu multiplers up to 5.5 and a fsb multipler 100, my setting came at 5 and 100 with the bios in defalut and volts at 2.1. So, I've read on THG that he got 600 with no problems, I got a full post and all the way to the desktop twice and then it just shut down with setttings at 5.5 and 100, left bios in default and dip switch at 2.1, since then I've tried EVERTHING in EVERY different way, 4.5@112, 5@112, bios and volts all over the place and NOTHING. Then to rubb it in, I go to,OC database here and see like 200 people with OC's at 500-600.SO, my first thing and thought was that it was overheating, so the FOP38 is on its way already, but how do you read this temp while its running with booting into bios everytime?, and my other question is do you apply Arctic Silver to a K6-2 , cause theirs nothing on the stock heatsink now, and also I put a fan on the back of the case , but to suck or blow is the question on that one, now it is blowing into the case.Memory is pc100@128,pc100@64 and I did have a pc66@64 but, I've removed that since my studies here in the forums. And last but not least, I've only found one reading where person said that Graphic cards and his HDD give him his problems, is this true and how would I even figure that one out?ATI Rage II and a 7gbMaxtor and a 7.8gb WD, dont now anything bout the hdd I'll check it out this weekend though. I would greatly appreciate anything you could help me with and so would my wife as I'm driving her nuts with all the computer stuff. Can't wait to build a new system, undecided though, Duron or a T-bird?

i used to have a k6-2, thay need to have a lot of voltage to o/c. try maxing out the volatge (aka: if you bord supports it go to 3.5v) just make sure you have sufficent cooling. also try taking the cap off of the k6-2(howto: www.spodesabode.com/articles/crackk6/index.html) btw:what motherbord do you have? welcome to the fourm

I have never overclocked mine...FIC VA 503+ / AMD K6-2 500 running stock 5 X 100 fsb. You most definately want some artic silver, or some kind of heat sink gook between the HSF and processor...without it, you will have little heat transfer. You don't need to spoon it on, just a good thin coating. Enough so that it dosn't ooze out when the HSF is installed. A lot of the guys are checking the flatness of the heatsink bottom also...some have had to lap them to get them flat. You can do that with a piece of pretty thick glass (maybe 1/4 inch) on a flat surface and some good wet or dry automotive body shop sand paper (180 - 320 grit, polish with 400 - 500 grit ) flat on the glass.A figure 8 pattern works good..just be sure to do it gentle, and keep it square...check it often so that you arn't takling off material from one side only. It needs to be as flat and kept square as possible.

I have heard that on some boards the 2X multiplier will be recognized a 6X. Give that a shot and up the volts a little. You may have to flash the bios to have it reconized as 6X though. I had a FIC VA503+ I know you have to flash the bios on that one. I could never get the 112MHZ fsb to work either. Hope this helps a little. :-)

I have my K6 2-500 sitting on my desktop right now. HAHA, But true. If you takes the cap off be "VERY" carefull with the core if you LAP it and just carefull anyway. That's why mine is on my desktop, I chiped a corner off and then they are NO good. I ran mine @ 560 rocksolid, FSB @ 112, mult 5.0, C/V @ 2.8. Had it @ 600 but not very stable. And YES use Arctic Silver 2, with the FOP, and if it has the Delta fan on it, it is loud. So I have my 233 backup in right now. Till Comp show next weekend and get a new chip. love the comp showz :-) Good luck.
