Am I missing something? I can not get these paired up! I tried the basic 100FSB, 4.5x, 2.0V core with no luck. I am running JE439 bios, E-O037 board rev. I heard these things overclock great, but I can't even get it running straight. I know both are good...

HELP!!!!!

I used to have a 503+, actually I was even running the same bios. However, I am not sure that it supports the K6III, I had a K6-2 500 @ 550 on it with no probs. I would check out there website"www.fica.com" and take a look to see. But they are really good overclockers, I also had a K6-2 300 @ 380 rock solid with just stock cooling. The only prob I had was trying to get the 112 and up fsb's to work, though I think it was the ram I had. Good luck. :-)

Now here's somebody I know I can help!
I built a system on the same platform that you're using.
The FIC 503+ will support the K62 and K6III proccessors, but the "+" series of CPU's were intended for use in the mobile market. FIC dosen't officially support these for use in a PC. If you had looked at their web site before you got the proccessor you would have known that (it's stated in their FAQ's). However after a shortage of replacement standard K6's, they did release a BETA version of a BIOS update that will support the mobile proccessors. The BIOS version that you are looking for is;
no. "JE4330"
I found it buried way back in some obscure corner of their site.
Once you get it, I think that you'll be very happy with that combination. I still have mine up and running and I found it to overclock very well. I've had it going for about six? months now and it is very stable. Follow the standard practices concerning the heat issues and you should be fine. Once you have it up remember that the K6III will recognize the 2X multiplier as 6X, although it may show up as 556MHz in the POST, it will be running at 600MHz.
I'll see if I can find the page for you, If not, I have a copy of the BIOS, and I can send to you if need be.
let me see if I remember....
FIC 503+
K6III 450 @ 600MHz
128 MBs PC133 (it's cheap now!)
stock HSF two case fans, one in and one out
13.6 WD hdd
VODOO 3 3000
etc......
Good luck

I found that BIOS for you on this page;

ftp://ftp.fic.com.tw/bios/motherboards/socket7/

The one that you want is "JE4330"

They've revamped their site since I got my copy of it and I don't see any of their explanations or disclaimers in there now. It's a 129KB file. That should do it for you.
Good Luck!

THANK YOU TAHNK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!

I saw the FAQ on not supporting it, but I had seen people say they did it. I just downloaded the bios, and bing-bang-boom 600MHz! I had to set the core to 2.4, is that where you are at? This is a brand new project, and actually my first OC, but it looks like I am to have some fun!

128MPCI-100
Voodoo3-2000-PCI
30G WD

Can't wait! (I am ashamed to say I am graduating from a Cyrix 200MMX -ICK!)

I'm glad I could help, I remember the trouble that I had setting that one up. It took a lot of research and a little bit of luck to find that BIOS.
Anyway, I think that you'll find this to be a really good performer.
As far as the voltages go, I don't recall all of the specifics of that box. But I'll open it up this afternoon and get you anything that you'll need.
Good Luck, I'll post back.

I checked it this weekend, I have the voltage at 2.1 Now that's with this particular chip, every chip is different. Also I've got pretty good case cooling with two fans, one blowing in right over the hsf, the other one exhausting out the rear, as well as the ps fan drawing air out as well.
Good Luck.
It's refreshing to see a renewed interest in the K6 line.
