HeatSink Golden ORB
ELSA Gladiac 32M AGP GF 2MX
Memory 128M PC133

I'm the beginner to OC. I did the pencil trick on L1 and it can run at 9.5x100, 110x8.5, 9x105 and the highest i can get is 9X107=963. All run at 1.8/1.85V. The temp at idle is 45C to 47C. with running operation will be 48C to 52C. When i go higher(below 1 Ghz) with either change FSB or Multipler, it will boot until run in the window with an error of window' registry and force me to restart or shut down. If i go to 1GHz or high, it will not boot at all.

Question:
1)what is the window registry problem? Is there anyway i can pass this problem?
2)if i increase FSB to 133Hz with Multipler 7, it will not boot at all. why? since the PCI frequescy is 33HZ only. Is my Video card problem (AGP).
3) Is the temp too high at idle? What is the normal temp will be in idle and operation? How to cool it down since the voltage is high?
4)i want to go to 1GHz. How? is the voltage too low or temp too high? Any suggestion?

Thanks guys,

I could be wrong but your temps are pretty high you do need some serious cooling. If you hit 950 and are stable run it looks like a job well done to grab 250 over stock.

I would agree. With better cooling you can probably get a little more juice out of it. I don't particularly find gorbs all that great, and would try an Alpha. The Windows problem crops up when you tend toreach your oc'ing limits.

U guys r right. i think i will get a good fan. Do you think FOP-38/WBK-38 is better or Alpha 6035. Obviously the Alpha price is expensive.
So the window problem mean it is the limit of OC? i thought it can go to 1GHz. PLease help me to get over this problem.

Thanks you.

My dad was sold a 250MHz k6-2 as a 300 (100x3). We had a lot of reg. probblems, but we put it back down to 250 (83.3x3). Its stable now.

I've got an Asus A7V also. I've tried several processors on it with varying results. The best being a DURON 600 @ 1050, A DURON 600 @ 978 & a BLUE CORE T-BIRD 650 that I can only get to 850.

The temps that you are getting don't sound out of line for an A7V, mine typically run in the mid 50C's, that board is known for inaccurate temp readings.

Also the KT133 chipset that is on there, (and all early socket A boards) is notorious for not being able to run a high FSB. Mine is max'ed out at 107, some can get as high as 110MHz.

As far as the cooling goes, the Golden Orb is not one of the better HSF's out there, I use a Global Win 32. along with a lot of case cooling. You may want to try to upgrade this, but it looks you're about at the limit for that chip.

I would suggest that you max out the voltage that's available on the board, and sit back and enjoy a $60.00/$70.00 processor that's running right at a gig.

got my duron 700 to 1001 but it got windows reg prob and said it wanted to resart and it said this every time at 1001 but i had it also at 980 but i fixed this by increasing the vcore by .050 and this fixed it for 980 but it ran to hot so

it runs at 910
130/32
vcore 1.675

hey dude

first off u need better cooling!!!! a good budget cooler is the taisol gck742092
which is far better than the gorb as standard but u will get further by putting a 60mm ys-tech fan on instead of the one it comes wtih or a delta 60mm 38cfm or black label 60mm 38cfm fan these last two are pretty noisy but ace at coolin your cpu , when u fit your new cpu cooler use artic silver thermal paste and this will help matters even further
u also would benefit from some case fans too
once u sort the cooling out try upping the motherboards I/O voltage from say 3.3v to 3.4v or 3.5v this should get u past the gig and stable

got to go dude catch u later

cheers
