on my soon to be system (750 T-Bird)
is the FSB 100 or 133? I forget....:-(
The older AMD socket A processors are/were 100 mhz. Only the very new C=series just coming out are true 133 mhz fsb. Most ppl are runnung their older processors at 133 mhz if their ram supports, which most decent ram will. The norm for a 750 setup would be 7.5 X 100 =750 mhz, but many would use 5.5 X 133 (731.5 mhz) or 6 X 133 (798mhz) a bit overclocked.

thanks.
I suppose setting it in the BIOS to 133FSB (which my RAM does indeed support) and then setting it to 6x133=798 would require me to get a new cooler as opposed to the one I have now. (it says on the fan "Ball Cooler Master CM12v) I can't be more specific with the fan cause frankly I don't know what type it is. It says "CPU fan" on the invoice.
Setting to 5.5x133=731.5 I wouldn't need a new cooler? Since it'd be underclocking?
thanks again.

by all means change the stock cpu fan its not that big investment .get some good thermal paste(arctic silver if possible) don't use the thermal tape it will come with(remove it)without scratching the surface.and when ever setting your fsb and changing your clock multiplier keep an eye on yor temperature and be ready to know what to do in case your computer wont boot have fun and don't be shy on the speeds my 900 does almost 1200 and im not done yet
Hey Akumu X. I try to recheck the posts I make or reply to, but this one slipped thru the cracks...sorry `bout that. Be aware (if you didn't already know) that your processor came locked...that is, some of the traces were cut at the factory. In order to run it at 133 fsb, you will have to do what is commonally referred to as the 'pencil trick'. You take a fairly soft lead pencil and go over those cut traces on top of the processor to complete the link. This will re enable the cpu to run at 133 mhz. Graphite is a good electrical conductor, but I still prefer the conductive ink-pen when ever available.
These processors run quite hot, especially the aluminum core ones, and all of the ones made in the US are aluminum core...so, a good HSF is very much recommended along with the heat sink compound, like artic silver to assist the heat transfer from the chip to the HSF unit..
Cheers

Just for going to 133 MHz you do not have to change the cooler. I am all for using good cooling. However for an increase of only about 50MHz, if it comes without raising the voltage, your original cooler may still be sufficient, if it worked ok at 750.
