Hi there

Pete (Madrad) allowed me to borrow a AMD Thunderbird 1Ghz CPU today as I had a sneaky feeling about it.
Thanks Pete.

I have been playing around with it and have managed some amazing overclocks and benchmarks.

I managed to push the CPU to 1540Mhz (12.5 x 123) and it still loaded windows.
It appears that with good cooling, 24/7 running at 1500Mhz should be possible.
Major problem is my motherboard, as 123FSB is extremely high for an ABIT KT7-RAID (old non A version). My new mobo should be here next week, IWILL KK266-r, I can't wait.

Sandra Memory Benchmark (Ram @ 164Mhz CAS2):
[img="http://www.crosswinds.net/~gibbo205/1464ram.gif"]

I am completely amazed with this CPU, 1Ghz @ 1.5Ghz+ is one hell of a bargain.

Cooling was done with a Super ThermoEngine & cold air duct:
[img="http://www.crosswinds.net/~gibbo205/thermo1.jpg"]
I used the ThermoEngine with Delta fan (7000rpm), I then placed a duct over the delta fan, which brought cold air direct from outside onto the heat sink.
The bottom of the heat sink is polished and I used a small amount of Artic Silver 2.
This gave the following temps @ 1525Mhz
Idle - 14c
Under Load - sub 30c
Case - 18c

I am going to do more benchmarks at a later time, as I am still testing heat sinks at the moment. I am expecting my IWILL board on Tuesday hopefully. Once I have that up and running at 170+ FSB I shall do loads of benchmarks.
E.g. 3D Mark 2000 gonna try and break 11k, Sandra, Quake 3, OcUK SETI WU etc....

I find that way way not possible,I am no expert but those screen shots look rather doctored. The numbers are so pixalated as to suggest some help from someware.

NOW if I am wrong please accept my apoligy. But to crank over 500 mhz more from a processor is way up there. And air cooled to boot, well you are the AMD pie in the sky dude and need to head up there R&D department. If you truely got that 1.54 from a 1.0 chip I want you at my house to crank up my 1.2.

Hi m8

I DO NOT CHEAT!!

Those benchmarks are real and yes it is a 1Ghz CPU. It is a week 09 of year 2001 and is a 1.3 core. I work at OcUK, and I test chips sometimes, so I saw the tray of week 09 1Ghz chips and thought hmmm, lets test them and most of them did 1.4Ghz, this one got to the desktop and froze at 1.5Ghz with STD cooling.
I decided to borrow it with permission and give it a go, and I have managed the above, I do not need to cheat m8, and I can't see how you can say those screenshots are doctored, they are the screen grabs unmodified and uploaded to my web site.

I work in the trade m8, and it is possible to hit 1.4Ghz+ with 1Ghz CPU's and upwards. Just that this chip was a little more special.

Anyways
I know what I have managed here, if you choose not to believe me then that is up to you, and don't care what you think. All I know is that I have a cheap & cheerful CPU that runs @ 1.5Ghz+

Gibbo I see you have access to a lot of chips.
What speeds are you seeing with the 1 1.1 and 1.2 on average?

thank you for any information you could share

Hi there

The chips clock to a similar amount, it depends totally on the week as all the modern chips are 1.3 cores.
We have had 1.2Ghz chips that find it hard to get over 1300Mhz, but were 1.3 cores. As we have had 1Ghz before that did 1.4Ghz+ about a month ago. The thing now is just getting the right week numbers when buying a chip, If you get a chip from this year there is good hopes it will be a 1.3 core.
Up to now I remember the following weeks been good:
03
05
09

Those are some stunning ram benchmarks. Are they from the same machine? How do you get 164MHz RAM speed at 123 FSB?

Thanks

Well anytime you reduce the size of a pic without the right filters it's going to look like that. Looks authentic to me, but I have seen some crazy design people do stuff even better than that with pics. That memory speed is correct... you can tell it to run the RAM=fsb+pci (which is how you can run the RAM at 133Mhz with the fsb at 100/200).

A lot of the latest chips seem to be doing extraodinary speeds with air cooling. Saw a 1.2Ghz running at 1.65Ghz recently (though they were using a submersed system... CPU was 2C I believe). I don't really see anything there that's really that unbelievable. I got my TBird800 up to 1.2Ghz, though I was using more agressive cooling. Good work man.

how do you find out the year/week of your chip?

Also, why do 1.2's have trouble going past 1.3? If they are 1.3 core shouldn't it go to 1.54 (like your 1.0 since 1.0 has a 1.3?)

maybe you have one of those protopalameno's or whatever on the front page.

That's a hell of a good overclock mate.Well done!!!!
I bought some stuff from OcUK last week and they are really good especially the thermoengine(although I haven't got the 7000rpm fan)
My duron 700 is doing 900 at the moment but I want to push it even more once I get the hard drive.

its possible, I ran about the same speed but i use watercooling. the benchmarks look like mine do! Its real to me. If you dont believe him, go out a buy a setup like that and see what you get!

I just bought a 1Ghz chip from ACCUBYTE that is now running stable (Just played Nascar4 for 2 hours) at 1463 (133x11)

I AM VERY EXCITED> Believe what this guy tells you because my chip is near his scores!

What's more unbelievable are his temps, how on earth with air-cooling could you get sub 30c on 1.5Ghz overclocked chip????
Come on, even if your mobo sensor was recording those temps common sense would tell you they were wrong.
You just have to look at the results of running a Duron 800 @ 1000 (52.6 watts) with this heatsink reviewed on this site to see posting figures like that are just nonsense.

Well if you work for ocuk youll be doing an article on the tbird at 1.5 wont u ? Also if the t birds are running that high why arent you selling em on your site at that speed?? im sure peeps would be queing up to have 1.
