i finally got my new system up and running after a day and a half. anyhow, my question is:

are my temps correct? i checked in the bios, via hardware monitor, and mbm and they are all the same. i've been running prime 95 for over 13 hours now and my highest temp is 27 C. it idles at 17-18 C. i remember when i had my celeron 633 @ 950, my temps would be like 40 C running prime. so is this right?

fsb 112x8 stable as heck so far...
i haven't unlocked it yet. i'm gonna get a defroster kit to do it with instead of a pencil.

specs:
kk266 ver 1.2
duron 800 @ 896 1.69v
radeon 32 ddr
micron 256mb pc133
ibm 20gb 7200

Well those temps could be correct, what hsf are you using, whats the temp of room? those are excellent temps and are very achievable with good cooling and a nice cool room.

i forgot to mention those, sorry.

i'm using only a fop38. (driving me nuts at times)
room temp is 25C.

i want to turn on my heater, but i don't want the room temp to get higher... lol

Those temps, assuming they are correct could go much higher w/o you worring. Well no doubt the FOP38 is one of the best coolers, did you use arctic silver? If you got the temp from Bios, MBM ect and theyre all the same then congratulations, your the owner of a very cool cpu. Dont start worying till your in the mid to high 40's. Good luck on unlocking.

Btw my temp is 53c.

i wasn't sure if those temps looked right or not, that's why i asked. cuz i'm used to seeing them way higher... but i haven't maxed out the cpu yet, so i'll find out when i do that today. i'm just surprised to see my temps that low.

i'm using some generic compound. i got it with my celeron. and as my temps are concerned, it seems to be working damn well....lol i did lapp my fop before i put it together though. i was amazed as to how smooth i got it to as opposed to it not being lapped!

how can my duron run cooler than my previous celeron 633@950? i don't understand that part...
the celeron had a fsb of 100*9.5 @ 1.7v (higher than my duron) on a soyo 6ba+100 with a gorb...

well i couldn't find anywhere to buy the conductive or the like? what is that other thing others use called? a defogger kit? what exactly should i ask for when i go to the store?

anyhow, since i couldn't find another method of unlocking my chip, i thought i would try the pencil. did that but had wacky result from the settings in bios... so i tried it again, but still no good. then did it a 3rd time, but still no good. this time nothing changes when i change the multiplier, not even wacky results...

i tried 3 different pencils, mechanical pencils, even tried using 2 pencils on the same try, still no luck. what the heck is wrong?

so i said screw it cuz i didn't want to take my hsf off for the 4th time tonight. so i just played with the fsb and vcore. right now i'm at 992 124*8 @ 1.75

idles at 21C. room temp is 24C.
everything i've tried... i.e. prime, 3d benchmark... cpustability... i can't make it go over 28C!! don't forget it's only a duron 800.

i want to lower the multiplier and raise the fsb, but i can't unlock...

any suggestions would be appreciated...

Be careful with the L1's because they are tiny so you'd better get a magnifying glass and reaply the pencil try it with either HB or 2B it should work.It worked for me anyway. Also try not to get any pencil in between the L1's.

i used a magnifying glass to make sure i didn't cross any, and they looked good to me. i used several types of pencils, but still no luck...

what do you mean by "try not to get any pencil in between the L1's"? how do you connect the bridges w/o getting any lead in between?

please explain... thanks

i finally found a defogger kit!! had to look at several places and called several others, and i finally found it at the last place!! i didn't know it was so hard to find this damn thing...

anyhow, since i couldn't unlock it with a pencil no matter what, i thought this would be the next step... so hopefully it'll work!! if this doesn't work, i don't know what will...
