View Full Version : T-Bird 1.2 GHZ @ 266MHZ 'Blue Copper Die' for 10 bucks more??
I saw one merchant selling same T-Bird 1.2 @ 266 at different price. I thought every T-Bird over 1 Ghz Is Blue Copper. I'm suspiciouse that maybe it is difference between Palominos proto and T-Bird.
Additonal Info: It is not time to go for DDR yet. There is PC2100 with Cas 2(Samsung) but it is not in the market(only Cas 2.5 which might not be able use for next upgrade). Also Abit and other good guys made VIA KT266 Chipset board but not in the market yet. those board will hit the market after Cebit fair(Around 3/28) and will need mature time for 4 to 5 month.
My 1.1 is purple. Don't know if blue generally o/cs better though.

It's more expensive because its a native 133mhz FSB chip. Standard Tbird 1.2s are 100mhz units, there really isnt much difference except that one from the factory is clocked at 133x9 instead of 100x12

Thanks for response.
Mike both T-Bird are @266MHZ not 200MHZ.....
Anyway I ordered that Blue Bird 266 with 10 buck more. It will arrive in 10 days so I will let's you know it is real Blue or Purple. Also Part no#.

I thought the story with all Socket A chips was that any made after 7/2000 had copper interconnects regardless of core color... and I dont think the 1.2 GHz was even out at that time, much less the 266 MHz FSB 1.2. I wouldn't pay the extra.... sounds fishy to me.

The copper interconnect story is a rumor. They are still using aluminum - check the main page they had an article about it.

Ok guys, here is the poop. The copper core AMDs were / are made in the Dresden Germany plant. They used (almost exclusively) a blue polish / wash that gave them the blue color. The Dresden plant is the only one that produces the copper core cpu's. The Austin Texas plant ONLY fabs the aluminum core processors. From what I can find out (and believe me, I have written one heckova lot of ppl) the Dresden plant MAY be shut down at the present, gearing up for the next generation of processors...nobody has the inside track on this, that will let it out. All of the current processors, new on the shelf in recent months are aluminum core jobs, regardless of the color of the finish...UNLESS!!!...the Dresden plant is actually back up and production has resumed.

I am confused, the 1.2 at 266 should overclock better because it is made of copper. They are both the same core though just made of different materials right?
Copper has better electric conductivity than aluminum. So theoretically, copper core should produces less heat (and better transfer rate) than aluminum core if it made of same design......
I just got my T-Bird 1.2GHZ @ 266 FSB, and It is real Blue not Purple like.
It is unlocked too. When I ordered, there wasn't any unlock option on their menu.
Here is part number....
A12000AMS3C
AXIA0107UPDW
Y6031850829 AMD1999
I read post on main page about CPU price difference and .....
That Atacom is where I ordered.
However I feel not that bad because I like color Blue than Purple. :)
