I was looking on the Crucial website for memory and it lists 2 types at 133

SDRAM, PC133 • CL=3 • Unbuffered • Non-parity • 7.5ns • 3.3V • 32Meg x 64

SDRAM, PC133 • CL=2 • Unbuffered • Non-parity • 7.5ns • 3.3V • 32Meg x 64

I have seen some discussion about this but am unclear on the differences
Could someone explain to me what this is all about?
Thanks

I know how hard is it to get silly questions answer.
I ask alot of them myself.
Lots of the guys here I think are tired of answering the same questions over and over...but since I'm new. I'll help ya (I think)

CL-2 is a lower latency then CL-3
thus making CL-2 the faster of the 2 (as proven by benchmark programs like SiSoft Sandra)

capichι?

Ok guys im new aswell so i'll give it a shot, Cl-2 Or Cas2(i hope) refers to the number of cycles(i think) while cl-3 Or Cas-3 has to go through 3 cycles therefore making it slower. ( i really hope im right or at least have something right.) Ive got generic pc133 @cas3 that does 150, at cas2 it topped out at 140. Yes the benchmarks do like Cas2 Better. I hope ive helped in some way.

Oh and what ive found is im sure the experianced guys get tired of replying to the same thing over and over but they do it anyways.
YOU GUYS rock0rz!!!!! (Too much CS for OpenFriday)

Okedoke...I'll take a shot at this myself. And, I also am not quite as versed with ram myself, other than what I read.

If you are not gonna overclock, but will want to run your processor at 133 mhz fsb, CL-3 (same as CAS3) will work just fine. maybe even a tad higher. If you want to try overclocking, you will want PC133 CAS2 or better, you will be able to go up to at least 150mhz with good name brand ram, like Crucial, Corsair, ect. The CAS2 @ 133 will probably drop back to CAS3 @ 150 mhz.

Sence Crucial has their ram priced so close together, I would most definately get the CAS2...which I ordered from them yesterday...two modules of 256 mb CAS2 PC133 part no, CT32M64S4D7E for $89.24 ea with free UPS 2 day shipping. Can't beat that. But...the word on the street right now is, ram may be on the way back up again, as some plants are gearing up to fab the new DDR ram...read the following. These ppl are usually right on track.

Yep that sounds about right to me, looks like Bovon summed up mine and Akumu X's posts into a more easily understood paragraph. I have 2 different sticks of 128mb pc133, 1-cas2 1-cas3, i guess i was just luck the cas 3 had no problem with 150fsb. Well like Bovon said "word on the street" is ram is going up in price so im gonna grab a stick of 128 micron cas3 while its still cheap. I wont be caught dead buying ddr ram anytime soon, i just have no money. :(

How much is that Micron, OpenFriday?...Crucial is a part of Micron, but Crucial has the best prices so far that I have found. At the same time I ordered my 256 modules, I also ordered my daughter 2 modules of 128 mb PC133 CAS2 because I don't think her mobo supports 256 modules. the 128 mb strips are $51.84 right now (just looked)

http://www.crucial.com/webpromo/

enter some company name...dosn't matter who..this is a promotional sale anyway, then click go...then click on search by memory type, ect...then choose 168 pin DIMM where it asks for memory type in the drop down menu...then, find what you want from all of the selections..the PC133 modules are at the top of the list.

128mb Micron pc133 @Cas 3 =65$ (Canadian) so about 50$? for the Americans. 256mb of the same is 119$.(Canadian)

EGAD!!! the price of the 128 went up 3$!!!! the 256 stayed the same.
....im frightened? are the days of incredibly cheap ram over?
