Hi, I'm new on this site and found some things to try with my system. I have a Abit KT7 Raid motherboard with a 1.2 T-Bird and 256 MB PC-133 RAM. I'm trying to get it overclocked and with the different setting I've tried it's either wouldn't boot into windows or the system wouldn't even turn on. I don't know if there's something you have to accually have to do with the chip itself or if there's certain setting's in the bios I have to adjust other than the multiplexor settings. The best I could get it was to 1.28 GHZ with it booting fine. I bought the chip in the retail box so it had the AMD heatsink and fan.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

A lot depends on which 1.2 chip you have. If it is the (very new) true 133 fsb chip, it should OC just fine, as is. If it is one of the older 200 fsb chips, that come locked...you cannot O/C (by raising fsb) it without unlocking the chip. It will have to run at 100 mhz fsb until unlocked, which then, you can set your board to run at 133 fsb, set the multipliers in bios / jumpers to about 9 (1197 mhz) or 9.5 (1263 mhz) or X 10 which will produce 1330 mhz. At these frequencies, be sure to have a very good HSF on your chip with some good heat sink gook like maybe artic silver.

If it happens to be one of the older, 100 mhz chips, it has the aluminum core, and will run hotter than the copper core processors made in Germany. Heat is not good for microchips, so be carefull.

I just bought the chip brand new in the retail box 3 days ago and it has a 200 MHZ front side bus. Since it was in the retail box to I need to modify the chip or is there a way to find out if it is accually a 200mhz front side bus? I'm not at home now so I can't check but think wcpuid tells you that. I hope this information helps.
Thanks for your reply.

The #1200 and the letters following it will end in a b foe 200fsb or end in a c for 266fsb.

Thanks for all responses. Fortunately, mine is really the very new true 266 FSB with an ID of A1200AMS3C. However, I am not able to overclock it at all. Each time I increase the multiplier to 9.5 (the system works but very unstable). However, I can't even get to 10 (or higher) at all. My cooler is a Thermaltake Super Orb. Is this a good cooler? Any take?
