More great news!

"Splash Damage to Co-Develop Doom 3™'s Multiplayer Levels with id Software
Thursday, July 24 @ GMT Daylight Time locki ( comments? | )

id Software and Activision have just announced that Splash Damage is co-developing Doom 3™’s multiplayer levels with id Software, a preview of which will be on show at QuakeCon 2003:

"QuakeCon attendees will have the chance to play DOOM 3's four-player Deathmatch on a level co-developed by id Software and U.K.-based developer Splash Damage, Ltd. Splash Damage has most recently worked with id Software on Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, and will be co-developing DOOM 3's multiplayer levels."
We are, of course, extremely excited to be working on Doom 3 with id Software and Activision. Check out the full press release here.'

Splash Damage made the recent "Wolfenstein: Enemey Territory", and they are the BEST map makers EVER!

Doom 3 just smashed HL2 6 feet under.

edit: lol i forgot it said they made w:et in the part I copied :p

Can we please argue about which game is better after at least ONE of them has been released.

I am glad to hear that there will be multiplayer support after all. The game would have sucked without it.

ya I agree with funnyperson1 no more arging about hl2 and doom3 but I'm also glad they made a multiplayer for it but I kinda thought they would since it wouldn't get anyone with single only. Quake 3 is a sweet multiplayer game when you add some mods that people have made for it like Rocket area.

The multiplayer was always going to be part of Doom3 . What was taken out and I hope will be put back is a co-op mode . The other thing is that the multiplay for doom3 so far is with small numbers of players on each map .

a co op would be fun - but they were originally intending to have multiplayer in doom 3, did they ever actually say they werent, because I only heard of that in here.

I never heard or read anything saying that multiplay would be cut , except of course co-op :(

Only 4 players? I imagine there will be a lot of walking around empty cooridors before you see any action.

Maybe not if they design the MP levels for 4 players :p

They know the amount of people they have to work with, So i am seriously doubting they'll make huge daunting levels. Probably nice fun 2v2 DM maps, and hopefully a nice few 1v1 tourney type maps.

both games are going to kick some serious ass .. doom 3 as far as i known is ground up single player game and this multiplayer element is just like icing on the cake :D :D :D

umm now i just have to find 3 friends with machine specs to run the game lol

2 vs 2 seems a little (edit) pathetic nowadays to me, so the mp aspect of this game will have no impact on where i put my money.

Good deal, no MP really does suck. I hope it isn't limited to 4 players tho. What was the reasoning for only allowing 4 players and is that a solid number or will it likely change?

John Carmack believes that the Doom 3 experience is best suited to small groups and has set the MP elements with small maps focused around a few players . Of course 3'rd party modders will probably do something about that but for now the out of the box experience will be small groups only . Not to mention the fact that many gamers will disagree and flock even more to Half Life and the next Jedi Knight . So who knows if Carmack will repent of his decision .

I can't even imagine how many servers are going to be needed to accomodate groups of four flocking online to play this. Number of players shouldn't be determined by the game imo. Unless of course they know something we don't like more than four will be virtually unsupportable by the average server hardware out there.

I really hope he doesn't reneg on this. I'd much rather play MP co-op w/ only a few people, rather than w/ a huge crowd. I think it would be a better experience. As for deathmatch . . . that's a different story ;)
