View Full Version : I GIVE UP!!!
well i just unlocked my duron 800 in hopes of changing the multiplier but no luck whatsoever!! i did it with a defogger kit too, so what the heck? i did the pencil thing many times with several different pencils, but nothing worked so i thought doing it with the defogger kit would certainly do it, but nothing whatsoever too!! what's wrong with this damn thing? the bridges are connected properly and none of them are crossed... i used a magnifying glass and the whole nine yards.
i can only change the multiplier and voltage, but no multiplier!! i can only go as high as 124 fsb... anything over 125 will not post with any voltage setting. i have micron 256mb pc133. i thought maybe it was the bios, so i flashed it with the lastest from iwill, but still nothing!!!
is this board messed up? cuz i can't think of anything else... please help me!!!!!!
kk266 ver 1.2 w/ latest iwill bios
duron 800 @ 944 118*8@1.68v
unlocked w/ defogger kit
micron 256mb pc133
fop 38
temps are very low, so that's irrelevant...
thank you all if you can/try to help me...
Some Iwill boards have had a problem with the multiplyer settings.Read the posts in AMD motherboards for the last 14 days.
well this board is going back to iwill! i just sent them the rma request with their advance replacement. hopefully it'll be here by the end of the week!!!

Get yourself a nice little Abit KT7A board. I have one and they are pretty nice boards.
Just my little contribution. :)

the Duron 800's cant be unlocked by using only the pencil trick, they have to be soddered. if you want to attempt this heres a site that ill help you out. http://www.3dgameman.com/ watch the review for the 800

thanks for the link. i don't see why they can't be unlocked with a pencil or defogger kit. i still think it's my board that's stopping me. i'll know for sure when my new board arrives...
all the sites i've read for the 800 says they were unlocked with a pencil or defogger kit, so i don't see why mine's not working. so i concluded it was the board.
if i'm wrong, at least the modified board will be good for the future when i upgrade and finally be able to change multipliers and know that they will work.
i got my revised board and it works!!! i can use any multiplier w/o a problem!
now i know it was the damn board that was causing my problems! this new one with the right resistors works great! it wasn't my chip or my unlocking technique or me period... just the damn boad!

This is not true! I've been running my Duron 800 for a while and have had success at all multipliers and all FSB speeds. It took me a grand total of about 30 seconds to unlock the chip with a pencil.
With that being said, I would probably still go with the rear defogger kit or soldering (if you've got a microscope and proper tools), if you want a permanent solution. I didn't want to worry about the warranty being invalidated, so I chose the pencil.. if it goes south, eh, well, I might redo it or just run at the stock speed.
I would guess your problem was with the motherboard, if it's revision 1.2 then it is ~90% likely. Check out Iwill's website for details on determining whether or not your resistors are screwed up.
The pencil trick DOES work with these chips, though, in general.
