I have an amd duron 600 and have only just got into ocing but have not yet done any yet. i just recently downloaded sandra and it says my cpu core temp is 43.8 degrees C. This seems really high. So i installed my motherboards via hadware monitor and that says it is 41 Degrees C.
1) i dont know which to believe.
2) why the hell is it so high?
I dont have a bad fan its new and does 6000 rpm but its just a standard. When i do overclock i will use a fop or alpha pal. Thanks for help.

I found that Sandra and the VIA hardware monitor do differ in temperatures.
In mine (1ghz T-Bird) my VIA monitor says 42 and Sandra says 31. There is usually a difference I take the the highest reading so that way you know the worst off temperature it can be.
Have you got any other case cooling? If your using a basic heatsink and fan then the reading would be quite high compaired with that from a superior cooler such as the Alpha.
Things you need to consider are, Is the airflow in your case clear (cables tied back, power supply not directly over cpu, etc), Get extra cooling (preferably one 80mm fan bringing air into the case at the front and another 80mm fan extracting air from the back), Cooler (if your going for an alpha, and I recommend them, then be prepaired to spend that extra bit more on the decent one, FOP coolers, better one being the FOP-38 from Globalwin, is a cheaper h/s +fan but not atually making a massive drop in performance), also you need proper heatsink paste, I recommend (as does everyone) Artic Silver II, it is far superior to any other brand and will make a difference of a few degrees when compaired with another manufacturer.
The more air you can get flowing around your case the better.
Let me know how you get on.
Hope this helps.

Hi,
Check in your BIOS after a re-boot what the CPU temp is.
I guess that you mainboard utility is correct.
My mainboard utility matches the temp in the BIOS yet Sandra tells me that my CPU is 10C hotter than it actually is :o

thanks for the help guys,
i just bought a slot cooler today and that hasnt made that much difference(none). Is this cos i need another fan to take cool air into the case? And if so how do i fit one and which one/type do i fit.
Thanks for help
