View Full Version : AMD HSF is pretty good if you ask me

I recently purchased a new Tbred B 2400+. It came with a Copper base HSF with what look like Aluminum fins. It looks pretty substantial, and figured it would cool better than my cheapo glacial-tech HSF. It was horrible. I then took it off, and noticed the bottom was horribly uneven. After sanding it down nice and smooth, I reapplied it with some AS3. my 2400+ now gets 56C at full load (Case temp 29C), Stock speed, +0.1 volts because my mobo does that for some reason. Not too shabby for the cost of some sand paper. This HSF isn't all that bad.

is the 56C a motherboard reading?

yes. I mean it's not all that fantastic, but it is to me, especially for the price, 0.

I have the same cpu as you with the stock heatsink and fan. My idle temp is 43 and full load is 49 im not sure if these are completly correct though.

hehe, now I feel inadequate.

51 load right now at night. Seriously though, next paycheck is going into parts for a water cooling system.

right now i'm at 175mhz fsb with my barton running @ 1925Mhz, right now it's at 41 with surfing the web, but it rarely gets about 47 load with the stock heat sink, these are i think off the mobo, i'm using easy tune4 if that helps, cpu is 1.66v. this is with the stock cooler. compared to my 1900+ hsf the fan is much deeper.

Whats tune4?

it's some giga-byte software that works with my board to overclock(like i would use it for that) and monitor the temputures. it should be " Easy Tuner 4" but it's "Easy Tune 4" go figure.

Annoyingrob: Wow, I didnt know that that AMD heatsinks had impoved. I have always heard stories of people using the stock HSF un-overclocked and getting temps in the 50C range idle.

Power Unknown: I would suggest using the BIOS to overclock over the third party overclocking utilities. I have found that they do not work very well, and can be very unreliable. I can look into why a little more if you want, but I would use BIOS to change your settings.

my friend got one of those new heatsinks with his barton, it really does work pretty well. Although aftermaket heatsinks are definately a better choice.

i have use the Bios to overclock but i think since this is giga-bytes mobo and it's giga-bytes software it might be using the bios. but what do i know, it has a temperature threshold of 60c but i haven't had the cpu hit that yet. so i wouldn't know. i'll test out 12.5*175 it would give me about 2.1875 GHz. i might have to increase the voltage but i doubt it.
