Though I've only used conductive paint or actually soldered L1 bridges, thaere are literally thousands of OCers who use the pencil trick. Detailed procedures and pictures abound on the Web. Just do a search with cpu+pencil+L1 as keywords and you'll get a whole evenings worth of reading.

I tried the defroster grit repair paint & had problems with it drying too fast. I then used the HB Mechcianal Pencil & covered the L1 bridges up with a small piece of black electricial tape to procet it. Have a cooper shim at I cleared sprayed the bottom side to keep it from shorting out the bridges. Used regular non-conductive thermo grease on both sides of the shim & a very razor thin coating of ASilver on the cpu core.

I also special ordered a conductive pen from Radio Shack. It still has a 7mm tip. The slickest fix I have seen is the conductive tape from www.Plycon.com They have three sets of bridge closers for $25 bucks. That's is high when you add in the $8 buck FedEx shipping charge for just that item. A simple 34 cent postage would cover this item, but they ship that way to have a tracking #. Ordering several other items from them would be the way to go.

My Pencil trick is holding. The harder or higher the # of lead is suppose to be better!

Good Luck,
Pat

I used an HB mechanical pencil 0.5 mm and worked fine for me but if U go with the pencil trick get a magnifying glass cos the L1's are tiny.
