Yo,
I hope I'm getting the Gigabyte GA-7ZXR,
And I know I will buy the Duron 650/700/750 MHzzzzzzZzz
Which one should I choose?
And the second thing I want to know is:
How to break open my cpu to do the pencil trick?
Maybe some tips for the pencil trick?
Third:):
The FSB settings+Multiplyer settings>after the pencil trick?
What kind of cooler should be the best? (not to much noise/no watercooling)
Maybe a peltier?
Thanks for any reply you will give me!
Ok here we go:
1: I actually think u should go for the 600MHz, I have heard these have a better chance to OC higher than the 650, 700 and the 750MHz.
2: U don't have to "open" ur CPU to unlock it. Here is a good How to- unlock the multiplier, click on "AMD Overclocking": http://www.wildandyc.co.uk/
3: Try to get ur FSB as high as possible. try something like 9x109, 9,5x105 or whatever u CPU will do, just try some different settings.
4: Maybe the FOP 32, or the WBK38 with another fan.
Hope this helps

600 above 750? I doubt that..
I think I can get the 750 aboce 1050 MHz, with good fans and peltier.
My only problem is the PC100 sdram (2x64).
Stupid ram.
And no multiplier lock after the pencil trick and with the nicest AMD overclock mainboard it could be done..While changing that multiplier to the top and don't go further than 133 FSB it should work above the 1000
I think 600 Duron will work around the 900/950.
The duron 750 isn't much more expensive so I think (sorry!) I would buy that one.
But the only thing I don't get (tnx for the site).
Where are those bridges?
I do not have to open the cpu..is it on top/bottom?
Tnx!
I'm sorry to hear that u don't believe me. Proze ( a senior member of this forum) has a 600MHz running higher than 1100MHz ( I even think that's only with air cooling, no sure though), I haven't seen any 650, 700 or 750 do that without extreme cooling.
The bridges are on the top of the CPU. The bridges u have to close is the ones named L1. The bridges are very small, so u have to be carefully when u do the unlocking.
Here is a link where u can see a pic of some closed L1 bridges, that how they should look when u have unlocked the CPU: http://www4.tomshardware.com/howto/00q3/000808/a7v-01.html
Good luck.

aha now you've called me some fact's ok.
hehe and then this: why do you have a duron 700? and not an 600?
(tnx for the url and reply and I didn't say I don't believe you..I just say what I think:))

Proze's system is watercooled and pelterized......
I have to say that your best chances for a gig are the 700 or the 800. I have heard for some reason that there's no advantage to getting a 750, above getting a 700. They seem to not like higher speeds as much as some other cpu's.

Whoa now. my Duron 600 hits 10x100 effortlessly at 1.8V and ran aceptably cool using a simple FOP-32. I had two case assist fans and that was it for extra equipment. No peltier, watercooling, etc. It would idle at 12 deg above ambient and 17 deg above ambient with Prime95. I have heard conflicting reports of 650s, 700s and 750s not having as much luck. Mine was a Spitfire Mobile Duron 600 and ran 600 Mhz with only 1.375V on the core. it hit 650, 700 and 750 with 1.4V, 800 at 1.5V 850 at 1.55V, 900 at 1.6V 950 at 1.7V and 1000 at 1.8V. I think that low voltage design of the mobile unit lends well to OCing. Maybe that's why the slightly faster ones designed for desktops don't fare as well.

Where the heck did you get a mobile duron at? and where can I get one? does it fit standard socket A boards with no problems? I've got a KT7A-R. Dude, I SOOO want a GHz and this may be the ticket......
It looked like any other Duron. Sandra 2001 identified it as a Spitfire Mobile. I didn't special order it. I just ordered a Duron 600 and that is what came.

First of all: I'm sorry about Proze's setup, I was wrong.
My knowledge was very limited (compared to now) when I bought my CPU, if I knew what I know today, I would have got a 600MHz.

Well just to say my mind. My system is running a Duron 800 @ 1ghz stable as a rock @ 1.8v. I love it. My mobo is the Epox 8KTA2 and I just cranked the voltage up and went right to 10x100.

ghehe ok
the 600 is ok
the 700 is ok
and the 800 is ok
haha
yeah that helps;)
CPU database:
The 600's average is: 937 Mhz
and with good results at 1050 MHz with simple aircooling.
The 700's average is: 950 Mhz
and also good results @ 1050 with simple aircooling.
The 800's average is :1005 Mhz
1050:)
oeff ok it will become the 600, somebody disagree with me?
