Hello all, here's my story:

2 months ago I had a 750Tbird. A week after I got, I purchased a GW FOP38 and killed my cpu by carelessly putting it on. A few weeks ago, I purchased a 900Tbird and have been doing ok, until 2 days ago. I wanted to reapply some more Artic Silver(don't ask me why) and ended up making a tiny chip on the corner of the core. I WAS very careful, but it seems like making at least a tiny chip is inevitable. So just post a "yup" if you have done it. One reply will make me feel better.

I've got a Duron that must be missing 5% of its total surface area due to corner and edge chip off. It works fine other than a 5% loss in cooling surface area. Yet, I have heard from others that had a small chip and kerbluey! Looking at my knarled Duron, I wonder if something else in their CPU brought about its demise.

Ok I can say that I was about to chip the corner of the die but noticed that I was applying to much force on it.So I probably saved my Duron700.On one hand is bad cos you lose the money but on the other is good cos it gives U a motivation to buy a better and faster CPU.

Im not really sure if i chipped mine or not. It has a couple of red lines across one corner. Works fine, and i havent looked any closer at it.

I'm planning on chipping off part of my TB900 as soon as I get back from vacation. My untrusty old SuperOrb is going bye bye and I'm replacing it with a vantec or alpha or something. I can't see how I'm going to get the SO off without trashing part of the chip.

Oh well.

THANKS EVERYONE. I feel alot better knowing that someone (or people, in this case) has done the same thing as I have. Every time I install the heatsink, it feels as if I'm doing some kind of surgery. Everyone be CAREFUL when installing a heatsink of any type. When they say apply pressure to the entire heatsink WHILE installing the clip, it's no lie.
