I am currently running a 2.4ghz p4 with a 400 front side bus. It is not overclocked. I am using arctic alumina with a Thermalright SLK9000 with a vantec tornado. The fan is running at 2250 rpms. I also have 2 intake fans and 2 exhaust fans. I have the vantec fan on the cpu blowing into in the heatsink not away from it.

These are the temps in my bios after my computer has been running idle for about an hour

31 degrees celcius system temp idle
45 degrees celcius cpu temp idle

I do not have any load temps, what is a good program to use to get load temps?

Thanks

those temps seem a little high.. but i guess it kind of depends on the temperature in your room. with a processor that isn't overclocked and an slk900 you should get mid 30s i think.

when you say "get load temps" do you mean to look at your temps while at load or to load your processor?

for monitoring temps motherboard monitor.. http://mbm.livewiredev.com/

for loading your processor use prime95.. http://www.mersenne.org/freesoft.htm

When I have the cpu fan cranked up the temps only drop to around 40* celcius. I have tried reseating the cpu, using different thermal grease. If I run the fan cranked up all the way I cannot even stand to be near my computer. I am thinking seriously about going water cooled.

hmm i really dont know. i used to get high temps with my slk900u, but i reseated it and i got lower ones. does anyone else think those temps are a little too high?

It is very smooth and polished to a mirror finish, i will try removing it and reseating it. Is it a better idea to have the fan blowing into the heatsink or away from it?
