View Full Version : IWILL KA266-R Athalon 1GHz Stupid Question
What FSB and Multiplier should i run at for optimum performance without damaging my hardware. I have a Crucial 1600 DDR Ram. The system runs great on auto everything but I think it runs the bus speed at 100Mhz! WTF shouldn't a T-bird run at 200 Mhz? And my ram should run at 200 also write? I'm just looking to push some extra performance outta this puppy. It is a game machine after all.
Any Suggestions?

Hard to say what to run the cpu at since I don't know what speed it is and how long ago it was manufactured and also what type of cooling you are using. I heard people say they can run that crucial pc1600 at 133 mhz+ . I would think you can run your ram at 125mhz (250ddr) or better. The speeds you are seeing in the bios are pre-ddr speed so a 100 bus speed is 200 ddr. If you want to get a nice boost from your cpu overclock it 10% +/- but don't raise the voltage for the cpu core unless you have good cooling. Again this all depends on what cpu you have and the color of the core(650 tbird w/blue core will do 900+)It is also advisable that after you overclock you run a game like quake3 and also a program to monitor your cpu temps and make sure it is running good. It is doubtful that you will cause any damage to a cpu if you don't bump the vcore, and in fact try lowering it :) The lower the vcore , the longer your cpu will last. My current cpu is a 1.2 ghz 100 bus (200ddr) cpu that does 1280 mhz at 1.65 volts. Unfortunately no matter how much power I throw at it it won't go any higher (maybe if i hook up some jumper cables and connect it to my truck battery!!!!) so i'm sending it back and scoring a 266bus model.
Well could you at least point out a relevant site? I'm not exactly looking to overclock i'm just trying to figure out what CPU/RAM FSB settings i can run at with just a standard air cooled system. I tried auto multiplier with 133 FSB and got 1333 so i assume that the multiplier is 10. But why would my CPU run 1Ghz at 100 X 10 shouldn't it run 200 X 5 ???
