I think we should do a question of the day (or week, whatever) that is posed to the forum members, and the question will be featured on the front page with the answer from the forum member who provides the best answer.

here's an example question- "What makes certain brands of CD-R media better than others?"

I think it would be a fun to try and get your name on the homepage and at the same time learn about computers! :D

Just an idea.

Question of the week is an interesting idea, but you can already get your name on the homepage by submitting an article. Also Ed already throws out questions on various topics and posts user feedback on the front page regularly

Your example question is also a bit of a tough one.

writing an article is a rather involved way to get your name of the front page. Yeah, ed throw's out questions, but he's looking for opinions, the questions I'm talking about would be little computer tidbits. Even though the question I put above is just an example, I think the answer could be found given enough googling.

Sounds like a good idea, but a) who would make the questions? and b) who would decide which answer is the best?

Ed? some higher up, like an admin or mod, then they could decide

Or maybe just a plug / link to the appropriate thread? Instead of "question of the week", perhaps a "fun discussion thread of the week"? (I like the spirit of your idea. :)) -- Paul

I like it!

what about having a quote of the week too? like how hard forums has their stupid little thing at the top.
