View Full Version : Need Big PSU for Server
I need a good PSU for a dual AMD server. Needs to be able to support 2x2400+ at 100% load, up to 5 hard drives, up to 4GB of memory, several fans, at least 1 CDROM, and possibly a Gigabit NIC. I'm using a truepower 550 in my current dual, and its been great, but I'm not sure that will be enough for the above specs, especially the hard drives. Let me know what you think.

I think if you are not going to get the job done with a True Power 550, you are not going to get it done.
Fortron does have a model of the 550 that has two seperate 12V circuits, one for the motherboard and one for the drives. This is about the only way you are going to top a True Power 550, save one of the ridiculously expensive large PC Power and Cooling units. But I find it very hard to believe that a TP550 would even break a sweat powering your intended load.

I run my Dual XP 2100's (OC'd to 1950Mhz) with 2 HD's, 2CD's, 7 fans, Lan, VID etc with a Sparkle 350W. Never misses a beat. Here is a screenie of MBM when I have 2 1600's at 1800Mhz. And this machine folds 24/7.

nikhsub, thats amazing, I can't even get voltages that good with a single CPU system! I'm glad to be reassured about the 550. I may just get a mid 400ish Antec to replace the one in my current dual and use the 550 for the server. I will also look into the Fortron. Thanks.
