Are refurbished power supplies worth buying or is it better to get new?

What's the price difference? I would personally go with new, but if its refurbished, its tested like its new so it should be fine.

What does "refurbished" mean these days? I've seen it refer to to everything from returned merchandise that was given a quick check (or just put back on the shelf if the packaging wasn't disturbed), stuff that's simply been repaired, to stuff that's been thoroughly reconditioned. NewEgg said that their refurbished products come from the factory and aren't tested by them.

I bought a refurbished phone from Frys and they said it was factory tested, but it had alot of problems so i returned it. IM not sure if it was ever factory tested. I would still buy a refurbished psu if the price was good.

You're right, it could mean a lot of things, there's a lot of possibilities when you mention a refurbished PSU, all of the things you said, you could apply.

They won't tell you for sure exactly, but you'll have to take your chances and gamble. However, if any is wrong, Newegg is extremely nice and they should give you a new one, yes that's not another refurb, but a new one if anything is wrong with it.

with such a important component of the computer, i wouldn't take the risk. just like everybody said, refurbished can mean anything, and could fry your whole system.

Yeah, the increased uncertainty about the device doesn't weigh up against the small monetary gain. A power supply is a crucial part of your system, a potential component toaster, and to top it off, also far from being the most costly thing in your PC. Is 10 or 20 bucks worth it?
