View Full Version : My chips dead :(
well it appears my 1.2 t-bird is dead.
it was never overclocked so i was wondering if anyone knows anything about the warranty's?
is there any chance i'l be able to get a replacement or something?
thanx anyway
Depends on how long of a warranty you got and how long the chip has been in your posession. Where did you purchase the CPU?

i know a dishonest person might buy a 1.2 ghz retail boxed cpu, switch the dead 1 for the new 1, exchange the dead 1 for a new 1, then sell the new 1. I doubt either of us would ever do something like that though :>
I purchased the chip from a computer fair (in australia). The chip was not in a retail box.
i had only owned the chip for 3 weeks.
i think i'm going to have to fork out another $600 :(

i'll try again....purchase a new 1.2 in a retail box. take the chip out of the box. put it in your computer. put your dead chip in the box. go back to the dealer that you just bought the working 1.2 boxed cpu. say it is a dud and gimme a new 1. take the new 1 to a friends house and sell it to him. the end :) anyway this is a good last resort if you can't return yours. if you just purchased yours 3 weeks ago maybe you can exchange it. some dealers give 15 days, some 30, some a year. good luck bro

It may be worth a try, but I don't think it will work. They verify that the serial numbers are the same when you send the DOA CPU back. This is half the reason it takes so long to get the CPU back (GRRRRRR).
Question...did it ever work?...if so, what happened at the time it stopped working. By any chance was the HSF removed?...if so, look at the cpu very carefully around the edges for a slight chipped place. It dosn't take much of a chip, and the cpu is history. Look at this one in the picture.

I Say Bitch if It's Retail, But...
...Leave The Vendors Alone if It's OEM!
