View Full Version : New 1.2 gig AXIA Cpu Test
Ok,
I just received my 1.2 gig 266 T-Bird. I was fortunate enough that the CPU is an AXIA (Was I lucky, or are all 1.2's this way?). It is also factory unlocked so no need to mess with that stuff! I popped it in my Epox and fired it up to Windows ME at 9x 133 fsb. Great! It ran fast, but naturally I wanted more! I now have it at 10X 140 fsb. This is great! I still want more. LOL. My temps are about 42 c under load. I am going to play with it some more and try to get 1.5 out of it. I plan on some more cooling placed on the sides of the heat sink tonight and if need be, I will lap the PAL 6035. I am also considering water cooling but I will not do that for a cuple more weeks. Anyway, I have experimented with bus speeds up to 155. Anything over that my lame TNT video card flakes out and posts lines on the screen. Not good. That will be my next upgrade. I am going to play with voltages and different settings now and try to get this thing faster! I am impressed with its performance so far though! I will post the results here.
Yes!
Now stable at 1450 mhz! thats 145x10! Not too bad for an air cooled CPU. It is running at 1.85 volts, and I intend to squeeze some more mhz out of it. Will post more later!
Anyone have any idea why my memory benchmark might be so low? I am scoring a 420/446 on Sandra.

a score that low on that bus speed can mean only 1 thing....you have your memory timing set at cas 3 and 2 bank interleave. what type of memory do you have? go into your bios and set cas = 2 and 4 way bank interleave and fastest or turbo ram timings if your bios supports it. . at 165 bus on my kk266r i get 665/775 :) that 4 way bank interleave adds alot of bandwith. probably triple what goin from cas 3 to cas 2 does.

Play with the memory timings a bit more. You may have to get better RAM. My advice is to buy some Crucial CAS 2 which will set you back between $60 and $95 for 128 or 256MB.

Where did you buy your CPU from?
Thanks for the advice. However I do have 1 stiack of Crucial CAS2 256 mb and another Crucial CAS2 128mb. Next I think I am going to remove 1 stick and see if that helps. Also, I have tweeked the bios ram settings quite a bit and yes they are set as CAS 2. Maybe I have to try more? Also, the CPU was bought from TCW. You can visit their web site at www.TCWO.com. Maybe they have a bunch of the AXIAs? I doubt they will tell you if they do, but baybe worth a try. They didn't tell me!
the one before this was the AVIA wasn't it?
That too was supposed to get 1400+ but have not seen much since it came out
Yo you changed from the Alpha, is this new one better? how is the noise?
AXIAs are great. I got one from newegg.com about a week and a half ago. ITs a Tbird 1.2 that so far I have running at about 1466. But when I try to go to 1474 it starts to get unstable in games and such.
For those that are Curious, my cpu codes are:
a1200am53c
axia0108rpcw

Thanks Kriegster!
It was the bank interleave that was holding me back. I set it to 4 and it helped out greatly, but I am still not where I would like to be. My current scores for cas 2 4 bank are 500/564. Any more suggestions? Also I am getting some normal funky errors because my fsb is so high but my question is do you think replacing my current cheesy 16mb tnt pci video card with a new good AGP one would allow me to overclock higher? I know I will get better scores and benchmarks but do you think it will affect O/Cing?
Also, do you think that bumping my I/O voltage up would help any?

fyi i ordered a t-bird 1.2 266 fsb from www.tcwo.com on 3-6-01 recieved it on 3-16 . it is an "AXIA" , but i'm still putting it together so no overclocking report yet
Right On! I guess TCWO has a batch of AXIAs! You don't even need to search 100's of trays of CPUs, or pay extra for them! PLUS, if you get a cheesy fan, they give you a full 1 year warranty! Just replace the cheesy fan with a good one! BTW, any answer to the above problems is still very appriciated! Thanks!
