My processor gets somewhat warm if that makes a difference I donno.....

Try reseating the CPU and the RAM. Make sure you have real good contact between the heatsink and the CPU core. These chips cook really easy, so hope you didn't fry it. However, if you did, and you didn't use a defogger kit or conductive pen, it should still be warrantied.

I dont beleive i fried the cpu because I had realy good contacted with the cpu and the heatsink and had some kind of tap that was on the heatsink that came with it any other ideas that may of coused my problem?

I just tryed switching modules for the ram and reinstalling the processor with no success.

I just dont know what else to do........

if i did fry my cpu do I just send it back to the company that I bought it from "I didnt do jack to the cpu" and they send me a new one?

sorry if this sounds stupid but I will mention it anyway. do you have the start and reset switches connected to your motherboard? Your 350 watt power should be more than enough unless your sporting an army of fans and acessories. also try jumping the cmos so your bios is at the default setting and then reduce the bus speed jumper to 100. good luck

Did you try resetting the bios?

If that does not help, pull the power cord, and remove the battery.

Hope this helps

I cant reset the bios untill I get the computer to even turn over but I will try to jump the cmon and see if I have the case power into the motherboard right

I will have to look to see if I have the memory at 100...

Note:I was able to plug fans into the motherboard and have thim go so doesnt that mean I have power in the motherboard?

thanks for all the ideas and if this doesnt work please keep the ideas coming=]

Disconnect all fans from the mother board except the processor fan, if processor is on the power supply plug 1 case fan into the header for the processor fan.

On the MSI and The ABIT I had problems with mother board power with 3 fans hooked up on them.

Also I just got a m/b that had the comos set to clear,I was so pissed at first cause I had no power what so ever to anything. So check the book and all the jumpers on the board as well.

Da Whip,
The KK266-R is an SDRAM board.
PC1600 DDR RAM will not work in the KK266-R
Are you sure you're ordering the KK266-R or maybe you've ordered the KA266-R which does support DDR RAM

Warlord2
You don't say whether your board is the KK266-R or the KA266-R.
You also don't say what type of RAM you are using.
Make sure your using the right stuff.

ok I got the KA266-r

and I have the

PC2100 DDR SDRAM

at least that is what I ordered

If you did fry it, all you have to tell them is that you never got it to boot. Just don't wait too long to do it. You'll probably have to contact them for an RMA number first, because most won't take a return without one.

Ok I just got done trying all of your guys ideas but still it wont boot Im going to try to buy a ****y used 600mhz cpu and see if that one will work. if it does I know its the cpu and if it doesnt I dont know what im going to do. Maybe I will take it to compusa and see what they can do

One more thing when I turn on the computer the light that is supposed to show up on your case to tell you that it is on well it doesnt show up......

could that mean its not getting any power?

I also dont know what H.D.D Led wire does that was on the case. it doesnt fit any of the descriptions for where to put it on the motherboard....

I was also wondering if it could be the battery should i go buy a new one?

VERY carefully remove the heat sink and examine the processor for a chipped place, probably on the edge. If it got chipped a little bit while installing that HSF, the cpu is probably dead...and no RMA will work...first thing they look at. Many cpu's are dying from installing or removing a big HSF, especially the Chrome Orb.

Take a look at this site, and look at the chipped corner of this Duron...see the small chipped place that killed this guys cpu...

Here is another forum that has dedicated mobo threads...lotsa info here for Iwill mobos.

This site is slower than molasses sometimes, and quite often the page will time out before it loads...retry it til it loads...

One Of Three Things:

1. Too Much Wattage :
(Could Have Fried Your Processor)

2. Too Much Heat Get A FOP38 Or A HS With A Delta Fan

3. Not Enough Ram

Hope I Helped!

I have almost the exact same system and i had the exact same problem upon build. My system tried to draw more power than the power supply could dish out. When you flip the switch do the fans spin for a second? I fixed my problem by moving to 450 watt server power supply and shes run great since.

Perhaps you can find a local computer shop that will check it out for you before you rma it. Better see how long you have to send it back. Good luck

This may sound stupid, but check the power button's cable going to the motherboard. Check all the plugs on the mb that the front light and power button use. I had a weird problem with my ABit Kt7-R and I realized I plugged everything in wrong.

Warlord2
03-21-01, 02:07 PM
my fans worked find even the ones that where attached to the mb

I even tryed unpluging all of thim exept the cpu fan and it still doesnt work

Im using a FOP 38

I just took a look at my processor and there where no cracks what so ever.......

if I fryed my cpu would it still get hot ?sense I want to see if it is still hot right after I turn it on for a while?

Custom PC,
That was a brain fart when I typed in PC-1600 DDR. I was talking to a buddy about DDR Ram as I was typing.( Proves I can't do 2 things at the same time)
But , yes it is a KK-266-R w/ 256mb Crucial PC-133 cas-2

Hey there Guys,

Here's your deal with this setup, I had problems with two of mine I built as well. Most likely your problem is the memory...One of two thing that i found:

1.Push that sucker in the DIMM pretty hard. You should barely see the gold leads. Or if not you will get no display.

2. On a KA266 system I built for my dad it would not post with only one stick of ram. Very unusual. However, I tried two sticks and it worked. Been working ever since with two Micron PC1600 sticks. Let me know if ya got that sucker working.

Warlord2

oh crap you mean I have to buy a nother stick of ram?

that stuff isnt cheat=[
