Wow you are running at 1Ghz and are complaining? You're gonna have to find out more about your computer than that. Start by trying to identify the major components (motherboard, video card, ram,) You may just need a better video card or more ram to achieve your disired performance. If you want to go beyond that you are gonna have to find out who actually made your components and what features they have.

You won't be able to overclock your system at all unless you get a new mobo. Sorry

gateways usually use a intel motherboard and are useless for o/c ing.everything is proprietary meaning those pieces of hardware are pretty much stuck with that box. if i were you i would invest in a very good video card, as if you not happy with performance, you may have a video bottleneck
meaning the processor is working faster than the vid card can push the frames per second. or buy the best motherboard out there right now. abit kt7a-raid. it is an awesome board, and gives all the overclock options you need

Hey, which Athlon do you actually have? Slot A or Socket A? Don't want you get a motherboard that won't work.

Hey horsecock, WTF are you talking about? An Intel mobo for an Athlon? I don't think so. Sound more like horsesh*t to me.

If it's a T-Bird, Gateway was using an OEM version of the MSI K7T Lite. I picked one up for $39 on eBay for my daughter. It's a nice board, but no O/C settings are included in the BIOS. Get an Iwill KK266.

If it's an athlon 1 gig that you bought within the last 6 months then its a socket a. As far as what mobo to get, that's going to be a tough one, I just got an abit kt7a which should be great for overclocking but I have also heard that Iwill, asus, msi, are all good mobos for overclocking. Check out some reviews, anandtech is a good place to start and I think they cover all the "recomended" motherboards.

hey i also have a gateway setup-not the 1 gig but an athlon sys never the less. Most of the athlon systems come with a standard AMD motherboard, which is not good for overclocking! Mine has NO settings in BIOS to overclock, yours might but i doubt it-you will need a new mobo, unless the only overclock you wanna do is with a GFD(goldfinger device) and use that-try--www.northwindcomputers.com-something like that

Only the older athlons came with an amd board now they come with the msi mobos. Also, I could be wrong, but I think the gold fingers only work with the slot athlons not the socket.

The Gateway boards are MSI K7T boards without the builtin sound, and NO options for overclocking. Even with an unlocked CPU, there is nothing you can change in the BIOS to overclock. ivwshane, you are right. The GFDs are only for slot A "Classic Athlons. The only way you can do anything with these boards is to get exotic, like soldering for voltages, etc. Not really worth the trouble.

Gateway uses I know for a fact two types of motherboard for there athlons one is the Msi board above and via board made by jabild for overclocking not possible the boards are made so you can't oc them

I believe you are correct burly but I'm pretty sure the newer amd boards are also made by msi with via chipsets.
