hi,
i have just built my new pc but i dont have a case , some 1 told me to set up my system first on the floor to make sure every thing works, before putting it in the case just incase something does not work.
well i have the system on the floor but i can not turn on the system because i dont have the case power button to turn on the pc, so how do u turn on the pc without the case
the system i have is:
asus p4c800
p4 2.8c
ocz gold 3700
enermax 456w
etc...
so do i need a case to turn on the system or is there some sort of button on the mobo or something?
thanks for your help

Ummm, you don't want to power it on while on the floor... carpet + circuitry = bad. It probably wouldn't cause a problem really, but just set everything on a desk before you power it on.
I'm searching for the answer to your question right now, I'm not sure how you do that really... I suppose you could look in your mobo manual and find which connectors control the power button then just use a paper clip to short them. That is what you do with your power supply to get it to turn on without a motherboard connected to it. It sounds like that would work, but I wouldn't go trying it until someone else posts. I don't want to be responsible if you break something. ;)

Make sure that everything is away from sources of static electricity.
Make certain that nothing is going to short out, etc. (Nothing conductive under/on/in mobo and expansion cards.
After you are 100% sure that everything is safe, look in the mobo manual- it will tell you which two pins the case power button attaches to; use a small screwdriver or paper clip (something small that conducts electricity) to momentarily connect those two pins. BOOM! :D
The pc will start ;)
Be very careful not to touch ANY other pins or components with your hands or the thing you use to connect those pins: you could short something out and fry it, which would be bad.
It really is easier than it sounds from my description, but I stressed the Caution parts for a reason.....It's a simple thing, but it does have dangers.....

buy a case, and install everything. i can't see the logic in your friend's theory. imho the parts are in jeopardy of being fried by static electricity laying out as you described and would be much safer installed in a case.

get a PS, connect it in, case are just for mounting stuff :) in theory that would work, but i've never tried it.

yup just use the screwdriver like roger said....also if your mobo supports it...after you do that go in the bios and change the way you can turn on your puter... most mobos can power on by typing a phrase...that will make it easier for next time
The paper clip is a common way of doing it or using something like a jumper. ;)

ahh who needs dat. my cele 950 the power switch is dead so is the reset button so i wacked the wires off at the button and i short em out like that... gotta be careful though cuz if the black touches the case metal comp shuts off. :D

I use a coin personally. Also many motherboards have lables at the base of their pins so you can read the board and figure it out on your own. Sometimes they lable the switch with 'sw' others 'pwr'
If your a hack then just jump all the pins. Damage may occur.

wow thats 'innovative' any chance the 8k3a+ does the phrase thing also? And does it lock out the power button. Would make for some good security.
