System:
P4 3.0C
ABit IC7
512mb Geil PC3200 Ram Dual Channel (2x 256) 2.5-8-4-4 rated at 400mhz (DDR400)
Stock hsf

Best I was able to get was 3.45Ghz (230fsb @ 1.625V) with the 5:4 cpu:dram ratio.

Vdimm is 2.6v with the ratio new timing is 2.5-4-4-7

I tried doing 3.6ghz (240fsb) @ 1.65V and 1.65V the system loaded up fine and I was able to do my daily task however Prime95's torture test was giving me errors with the first test. However I was not getting any errors with the 230fsb @ 1.625V

Whats wrong? Am I just a bad ocer (but I listened to everyones advice)
I am replacing my stock hsf with the Slk900U but whats the deal increasing the vcore to 1.7 and above is dangerous

How are people hitting 3.4~3.6 on default voltage (1.55V) when I have to go this far to get a measly 3.45ghz

Maybe its my memory?

Give your memory 2.8V and try again.
How are your temps ?

with good cooling (zalman or slk900+92mm fan) i wouldn't be too worried about a max cpu voltage of 1.7 but i wouldn't try any higher than 1.55 stock. i have a 3.0c on the way and i keep reading people have trouble getting over 230fsb with them. i hope not or i'll sell the 3.0c and stick with my 2.4c.

ideally you want temps 50c or under with full load.

i agree ram at 2.8 forsure, try disabling last two options under game accelerator options (bios 1.4 or higher) as that seemed to help my 2.4c. also make sure your ram timings are loose for now or try 3:2 ratio to see if its your cpu maxing out. you can always tighter up the ram timings later and go to 5:4 again after you know what the cpu will hit.

whats your PSU like? check the 12v and make sure its not going to low, that could also be a problem if its like 11.6 or under (11.6 being min it should go)

i tried ram at 2.8v and vcore at 1.675V on stock but that didnt help....

still have to try disabling last 2 options

i am at 5:4 now will try 3:2 aswell thx

well i got even more out of it on stock...man this feels good

3.51Ghz (235fsb) @ 1.65V

ram still at 2.6 and i am on 5:4 making it 3:2 does not help

when i am using winbound hardware doctor it shows my vcore to be 1.68 but i have it on 1.65in bios oh well 1.68 can't hurt me
vcore is 11.98~12.05 keep on switching between 11.98 to 12.05 every few seconds

using a 420watt psu that came with my xaser case

watch your temps.

at 1.65+ on stock your crazy, if its over 50c load i'd serious consider backin it off until good cooling comes. if your at 3.5 thats not bad, thats the minimum i want when my 3.0 gets here. i'd put your mem up to 2.8 as it generally helps keep mem stable when running prime.

your voltages seem really good so i think its only cooling holding you back now. i never tried the stock cooling on my 2.4c so i have no idea how many moer mhz you could expect but i'd say you'd probably get 3.6 with the slk900 and fan.

keep us posted

lol, its only a bad OCer for you because your temps are too high, just like they said.

BTW, you should fold.

so wait up if the chip runs closer to room temp then i might be able to have it hit higher fsb?

what do you mean by fold crash?

i'll keep it @ 3.5ghz but i wont do any full loads until cooling gets here.

oh my mistake i am at 1.675 @ stock

Well the cooler (not always closer to room temp, Liquid nitrogen cooled chips are farther from roomtemp than watercooled and they OC higher) it is the more stable it will be wich means the more it will OC, get a new HS! Don't worry about your OC on stock so much, just get a better HS THEN worry if it isn't good.

Folding is basicly somthign that uses extra CPU cycle to "fold" protiens, it researches how they work basicly and it could help find cures for many things including cancer, here (http://forum.oc-forums.com/vb/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=21) is the folding section on the forum and there are people who can better answer your question there.
If you do decide to fold I suggest you consider the [OC]FoldingNinjas sub-team (folding under team 32 of course), simply becuase we are the []D [] []\\//[] []D -dest:D

Oh, and there is an edit button so you don't have to make more than one post in a row, you shoudl get used to using it, its next to reply:D

are you prime stable at 3.51? run it for atleast 8 hours (if its gonna fail it will probably do so in 20 minutes or less, but once you know your somewhat stable let it go 8 hours+ and you can relax knowing your system should never crash.)

definately keep an eye on your temps with that high voltage stock. which fan did you decide to go with for the slk900?

if your stable at 3.51 then i'd say aim for 3.6 with the slk900 and if you get more its gravy, if your not stable now i'd only really count on being stable at 3.51 with the rest being gravy.

prime95 stable for 1hr...will test for 8soon i rather not do it yet because i don't want my temp 2 53C for 8hours...normally i only full load 30min-1hr a day and for the rest of the time my temp is 42C~45C

heres the fan i am getting: powerful but also quiet
Panaflo 92mm High Output
Model: FBA-09A12H
Air Flow: 57 CFM
Fan Speed: 2850 RPM
Noise Level: 35 dBA
Power: 2.7 watt
Bearing Type: Hydro Wave Bearing
Fan Size: 92x92x25 MM
Connector: Please choose a Panaflo 3pin or 4 pin Tail below.

I taken a liking to watercooling kits. I want to add one to my setup $300 max but i dont want anything difficult my system is already built and i dont feel like cutting any holes in it.

ask around the cooling board, i've heard of people making their own set-ups by mixing good parts rather than buying a kit for like $150. you could jsut buy a kit as well for like $230 (corsair, koolance exos, etc)

ask in the cooling forum, they'll hook ya up

also keep us posted on results if ya get a wc set-up as it'll likely give ya 200-300mhz more atleast if done right.
