View Full Version : Proper procedure to "Burn-In" a new Tbird 900...

I have never had to do this to a CPU... The last Overclocking chip I had was a C566 that had been running @ 850Mhz [default voltage] for about 3 months before I bought it. Then I bumped voltage to 1.55v and it ran 952Mhz no prob.
Should I run it at stock speed / stock voltage? Or as fast as it will go stable with default voltage? I have no clue on this topic.
I don't expect to get an "exact" course of action to take, but I'd really like to hear what you guys have done and what has / hasnt worked for you.
Thanks a bunch guys! Hopefully this will get me well on my way for my "Hunt for 1.1Ghz" :-)

Most of us dont have any clue on this topic either :)
Some say this matters, others do not. I would not worry too much about this, or even better, not at all.
I agree with Eriksson. I have not seen conclusive evidence (that doesn't mean it's not out there) that burning-in either way accomplishes anything unique. You definitely want to "weed out" the potential for a DOA chip by running it awhile and you want to run it hard for awhile to make sure your OC is stable. My experience over 30 years, with solid stated devices, is if they run okay for the first minute, they will run okay for quite a long time, providing you don't abuse them (not to be confused with working them hard).

Thanks for the replys guys....
I'm not going to worry about it much.. I'm just going to run it @ stock 900 for a while, and do a bunch of benchmarks etc...
I will be formating at the same time, so it will take awhile to get everything re-installed / downloaded / updated / tweaked etc... I'm going to want to make sure if something goes wrong, it's not because of the OC.
I think 900Mhz will be fast enough until summer anyway... Then I'll be out of university and can play Nascar Racing 4 over Digital Cable at home <g> N4 is the reason for this upgrade... I LOVE racing!
I just push em to the max. All three of my Birds ended up doing more as time passes.
