This has only happened about 5 times in the entire lifetime of the card, and I bought it when 9700pros first came out.

I'll be sitting there using some app, and the display turns into a bunch of vertical multi colored strips. The system didn't crash or freeze, as I can even move my mouse, and see a few mangled blocks move. (cursor). Its just purely video. I think the card is overheating despite the ram sinks, what do you guys think? I have a 10" fan blowing in the case now. The stock heatsink was also lapped, shim removed, and as3 applied.

is the hs making proper contact? not too much as3? is the fan moving air around the video card?

Yes, just enough for a proper coating, yes. The case its in right now is a mid, and though the case is open, its not getting proper ventilation. Thats why I think it does that when it overheats. It hasn't acted up since I've put a large fan sitting there blowing air on it. I'm working on a cooling solution now..

Sounds like bad memory to me. That EXACTLY what my Powercolor did only when I rebooted the lines didn't go away. What brand card do you have by chance?

what brand, and what ram?

sapphire cards with erontech ram have this problem, and there is a fix for it.

I had the same card... I tried the bios flash, and it only got worse - Black screen worse. Which means I boned up the flash. Anyway, Make sure you download the right bios. And when you do, post which one it is, so I can try to flash to that one!
