Here is my problem, put a new system together
Abit NF7-S Mobo
Crucial pc3200 512mb
2200xp
350watt psu
Radeon9600pro

press the case on switch, red and green light comes on, on the mobo, all fans spin up (case, graphics, cpu) DVD+CRRW trays open and close - but screen just blank no posting and HD does not spin up, also reset switch on case does not work and also to switch off i have to flip the wall socket switch, although the switch works to swith on?

Have cleared cmos, double checked case wires etc still need to check video card in another system, but i think it is something with the mobo as or could it be the cpu?
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated

Try unplugging everything you don't need. Strip the system down to a bare-bones configuration, and then see if it boots.

i have stripped down to bare bones
cpu memory and graphics which is giving same problems as mentioned?

How would i be able to tell if cpu has died?

When you stripped it down, did you also take out any IDE drives (hard drive and CDROM?)

Also, since you are having problems just turning it on/off.. Try disconnecting the power and reset switch leads from the mother board. To start the computer, short the power leads on the motherboard with a small screw driver..

Even with no drives, you should still be able to get a bios screen.

Sounds like the board or the CPU. Try taking the memory and the video card out to see if it will give you any beeps so you can rule those out. If you just built this system, try removing the board from the case and see if it will boot while sitting on an antistatic pad of some sort (I usually use the bag the board came in). If you still get no signs of life, you will need to try swapping CPUs and MBs to see which is the bad component. If you have a spare system, or a friend with a similar system, try your CPU in another MB. If it boots there, then the problem is your MB.

The upshot of the above is that if you cannot get anything out of the board sitting on an antistatic pad with nothing but the CPU plugged in, then you should probably start checking your CPU to see if it is heat damaged or chipped.

Well it could be a problem if you have the reset on the wrong header and tryed to reset the system it could have fryed the board. Most likely not though.

Try reseating everything, vid card, ram and CPU.Did you use the metal stand off's for the motherboard?
