i just go an msi k7t turob-r and a duron 700. I assembled everything including puttin a fop 38 heatsink on the cpu. I put the power on, and the all the fans started spinning and the hard drive started and al that normal stuff. The diagnostic leds stayed at all green. The manual indicates that this is a CPU problem. I took the FOP off (with a dremel cause it took me like 30 minutes to get it on) to see if I cracked the CPU. Everything looks fine, nothing is crushed or anything. So i put everything together after having ridded the motherboard of the metal shards, and turned it on. Again the same thing. Any thoughts on what is going on here??

well you see, the fop just did not want to go on. I bent the clip a little and got it to go right on, no problem. But of course, it did not want to come off, at all, so i had to cut the clip.

it sound`s like you were trying to install and remove the hsf without taking the mb tray out of the case? from experence i can tell you whenever you remove your hs......

so you have to buy a new clip ? :o

yeah, i was being very careful not to damage the cpu or the motherboard. I am not worried about having to get a new clip, i am more worried about why the comp is not working. I heard no cracking when installing the HSF.

well my first experience at OCing was a 900 tbird and a blue orb full size .. I removed it and replaced it several times and cracked it twice!(very small pieces)

but as luck would have it the bird was still able to fly , and my brother joe is still using the 900 and is just now putting the bird in my old kt7 raid...if all is done properly and with out a hitch (because of research) I suspect there wont be any problems....hey?

well here is what gets me. I have thouroughly checked the cpu and there are no cracks. The motherboard powers fine. It just won't move from recongizing the cpu. the core is producing some heat, indicating there is electricity to the CPU. I have not done anything to the cpu except take it out of the box and put it in the socket and then put the heatsink on it. I doubt i damaged it at all, or the motherboard, i was being very careful with the heatsink. The interesting thing is that my board will not power on without the bios switch at 1-2 which is to clear the bios. It won't power on with it at 2-3 which is the one to keep the bios settings. The manual says not to power on with it at 1-2, but why was the jumper set that way when i got the board. Is it just doing this for the first boot up, or did i fry the board?

there's a strong possibility that you still have some metal filings somewhere in your board. a tiny piece of metal in the wrong place can cause shorts and that always means trouble. i suggest you scour that board (figuretively, no literally!! lol) for little pieces of metal, to make sure that's not your problem. look in spare dimm slots, pci slots, everywhere!

well i covered up everything except what a iwas cutting with a cloth when i cut, and i did everything to get the shards out of the little place where they were. But i was having the problems even before that, so i doubt that is the problem. I am really starting to get mad now.
