counter-strike, uses 100% cpu!!??

Hi, im not exactly sure, but i seem to remember my cs only using about 30% of the cpu when i was inthe game, but now, i noticed that its 100% cpu usage. Can you guys tell me how much cpu ur cs takes up so i know if mines messed. THanks.

i may be wrong but im pretty sure that if you not running any backround programs your cpu will use all it can for your primary program (ie counterstrike or any other game you play)

yea that would be good, my friend thought it took up 100% too, but it lagged a bit today, i dunno, its never lagged before.

Yea, i had that problem as well... but sometimes it went away when i restarted my puter a couple times or so on my Single P3 1gightz cpu.

what do you mean, the lag went away, or the 100% cpu usage went away? some guy on irc told me that cs uses 100% of cpu resources or smth, or as much as it can...anyone know? plz im very curious. Tia.

Do you have Vsync on or off? Perhaps this could cause the CPU usage..

I thought every game used 100 percent... half-life did... same engine so bleh...

I think half-life only uses the idle processor, so its free to give out some of its power to other programs? most games do this i think... (if in game you alt-tab out and windows runs like crap, the game uses highest priorty and wont let anything else steal processor usage)

I think thats how it works...


I suppose half-life uses as much as it can, but will give it up to some other stuff... (?)

The 100% cpu usage went back down around 30% or so after i rebooted, but even when it did go 100% it didn't effect the performance of the machine. As I see it, if it doesn't hert gameplay or anything running in the background its probably normal ;)

When are you comparing these numbers. Of course the program will not use 100% if you are just in the menu are. Did you get these numbers when you had the same amount of load on the screen. i.e. same number of players on the screen.

Also have you upgraded you vid card or changed resolution.

I think CS does use 100% because i just checked mine and it said 100%.

hey im the friend of grindee, and my p4 2.4HT uses 15-20% when i play cs with the task manager open in front of it while moving around in game.. i guess my proc is just too fast for this game ;)

all game uses 100% but if u alt+tab and see the cpu usage , it is not always 100 , maybe because u minimize the game :)

Most if not all games will use 100%. Whether or not it needs it depends.

Hey me neither not on my primary system.. :)

I have found that some games will use 100% other games won't. It likely has everything to do with how the game is designed. If it is designed to spit out as many frames as possible then yeah its gonna take all the CPU. But it its not maybe its not. I play N64 emulation sometimes and those games use very little CPU (15 - 40%) on my gaming rig. Why? They are frame locked at 50 or 60 fps.

sorry to say none of my games use 100% of my cpu cs 1.6 and 1.5 never use more that 30%

heh I never see mine get over 50% unless im using a multithreaded app.
