More tubing is generaly worse for your system. Theres people who go crazy over flow rates and shortening their paths, but unless you like pulling your hair out, just keep the idea that less is better, in turn its less surface area, less friction, higher flow rate. Also, angles, splitters, kinks and elbows reduce flow also.

In general, keep you path short, quick and straight.

Yep, less tubing is better... it really just depends on your flow rate though - if you have a high flow rate then you could prolly get away with longer tubing...

Not always. Different strokes, for different folks. Compare pumps from all over... you might see one pump with a 'mere' 300 gph but it has a 12 foot head... but then you see another pump with 1200 gph with a 'mere' 2 foot head.

Example:

Iwaki MD20RLT - 420 gph - 14.1 foot head
Iwaki MD20RLXT - 540 gph - 8.2 foot head.
Iwaki MD30RLT - 510 gph - 17.7 foot head
