AMD450afx w/ Tekram P5M3-A+

before i mess around, i'm requesting advice.
any and all is appreciated, heres my options...
on this board, jumpers for:
CPU freq. Mhz
66
75
83
95
100
112
124
133
---- CPU Clock ratio:2.0,2.5,3.0,1.5/3.5,4.0,4.5,5.0,5.5
cpu voltage 2.2,2.4,2.8,2.9,3.2,3.3,3.5v

how should i proceed? manual is in hand.
seems like i'm offered a good amount of options at least.

Many HW gurus in this forum can Give you much better advise but... here is my two cents.
The AMD you have, 450mhz, generally may go up to 600mhz. So any combination of Front side bus and (Multiplier or Clock ratio) that makes... "UP" to 600mhz would be fine. But the key here is the Front Side Bus. The Higher the front Side Bus, the peppier you machine will run. EX: for 600mhz, the combination of 120mhzX5 is better than 100mhzX6. Also... the AMD core voltage is 2.2V but to go up to 600mhz you may make it higher than the default 2.2. Oveclocking is depends on many things... how good is your RAM, Mobo, CPU and also LUCK... :-) :-) :-) But don't forget that you need to have very good cooling system for your case.... :-) :-) :-)

cool, you've given me some specifics... it helps alot. i have PC100 2x64mb sticks, but its generic.. this leads to another Q, regarding the bios.... i have the memory setting as 10ns.. and i'm not even sure if thats correct. also can set cas, currently 3... dram pipeline is enabled.
in additional bios settings, i can change "CPU host clock" and "auto detect DIMM/PCI clk" ... i have auto-enabled and host@ 100/33

should these settings remain?
note: i bumped em' once and the system hung when it tried to load windows after POST.
if it would help, i can post photos of the bios screens or of the board.. just let me know what could be usefull to guide me further!
thanks alot!

i have a VERY roomie case... i have the 300w PSU's fan blowing out, reversed... i have an upgraded CPU hsk/fan and also a large case fan.... it's real good so far, i'm not worried bout heat yet. the vidcard does'nt get luke-warm either... it's all good in there<grin>
plus i can keep the lid off till i see if the CPU gets to excessive temps.

In my experience with socket 7 overclocking, you'll have to jump up your voltage quite a bit. My K62 500 needed 2.8 volts core to do 560. Good cooling is going to make or break this thing - I could have gone way higher voltage and pushed my speed further but I wasn't comfy with where my temps were at. I was using one of the bigger Coppermine stock coolers, with thermal grease. A good tip is to remove the aluminum cap off the CPU, but I dont have any experience with that, so I will leave it to someone else to explain. good luck

so, the proper steps would be to set jumpers at 120x5 and see what happens at my current 2.2v
if it does'nt work, try bumpin voltage up a couple clicks
and if by 2.8 i don't have it goin,
revert jumpers to 2.2v and 100x6?

sound right/safe?

or am i better off goin for 506-550mhz real gradual...
in any case, i would set jumpers, then try to mod voltage to get it workin' right. that's my understanding.

ooh no, you wanna step up MHz in small increments. Don't shoot the moon right away, so to speak. Go for 500, then 525, then 550, then 560, etc. You're most likely going to need to step up voltage along the way, too.

okay, sickboy... here's where we stand....
the mobo jumpers, left alone.
Except voltage, now 2.87v
the bios Auto Dimm/PCI clock disabled
CPU host clock upped to 112/37
i'm runnin' at 505mhz.....
450@505 it's screamin' from stock... but,
i don't think MBM is accurately readin' temps.
any suggestions? also, see my post in general discussions "it's official"... i gave a better run down there.... anymore info is desired, and greatly appreciated! thank you!
