Just won 5000 bucks @ the casino. And I've been reading way too much about these P4 C's.
My last rig P4 2.0A @ 2.66, Th711 Rdram800@1066 was quite nice but I want something with (pardon the language) I want something with balls.
This is what I've been thinking about getting, tell me if you think any area's could have improving.

CPU : Pentium4 2.6ghz (SL6WH and SL6WJ are the chips im thinkin are worth overclocking)
Could someplease explain what these codes mean:
L316A943
L311A730
L310A7xx -

Has there been a poll done on what chips do what?

Mobo: Abit IC7 Bios 1.3 or higher

Ram : Corsair XMS3200C2 (2x512meg)

(Are there any quicker models of ram?)

NB cooling: Zelman nhsf-zal-nb32j (im getting it a fan too)

Case : Prometeia Mach 2

Video : ATI Radeon 9800pro

Hurcules or Sapphire?

Hdd : 120gig IBM

(not too sure on models)

Soundcard : audigy2 Platinum

I want the ultimate PC! I'd like to get over 20,000 3dmarks. But im more after a solid system to play Battlefield on. This isnt a computer for HL2 or Doom3, Ill be gettin another one when they come out.
If u think I need something then please tell me. Im going to voltage mod the mobo and stuff and im willing to lose a part or two :P

CPU and Mobo look good.

As far as the RAM goes, I'd look into what kind of chips Corsair is using for those sticks you mentioned. I'm pretty sure they're using Winbond CH5s and those have been causing problems for a bunch of users when they try apply memory dividers at higher speeds with the particular mobo you picked. The only place I know of where you can get guaranteed BH5s - which have no problems at all - is Mushkin in the form of their latest sticks: Mushkin Black Level II 3500 (rated 2-2-2). A bit pricey, but hey, you just won $5000 :D. I have a pair in my box at the moment running on my IS7 (your possible future mobo's little brother) and it's running at 452 MHz 2-4-2-5. I'm quite happy to say the least.

Video Card:

Both will perform roughly the same. Aesthetically, the Hercules looks really sweet but if memory serves me correctly, usually costs about $50 more. But again, you just won $5000 :).

ill look into those Mushkin Black Level II 3500 sticks.
Thanks :D

dude you want balls, get that mobo and make sure it has serial raid then stick two WD raptors into a raid 1. and you got 36gb of scsi fast eide performance. with the benefits of sata ;). and get the 120 for data storage along side.

He'd have 72 GB in RAID 0 :)

just make sure you get a nice 18-20" LCD panel to go with that hella nice rig :D

May as well get a 2.8C...

And some OCZ PC3700 Gold maybe? Or if you need 1GB, then I'd agree with the Mushkin.

I'd suggest 2xWD Raptors in RAID 1 and a nice 120GB WD JB model for that extra storage on the side.

get a 2.8C and some pc4000 ram and run 1:1 ratio with 2xwestern digital raptors in raid 0. then put good watercooling to it and a good power supply and aim for 3.5+

Agree with most here..

1. Get higher speed RAM. Stick with proven brands (Corsair, OCZ, Mushkin). Don't get lower than PC3500.

2. Yeah get an LCD. I freakin' love mine. It's a Dell branded Samsung 191T without the portrait mode, and usb, but I got it for $600 shipped about six months ago :)
Samsung LCD's are excellent. They are producing a new version of the 191T, I'd get that.

3. Yeah gotta get Raptors. those things are smokin' fast, you'll be happy with it.

4. I'd get the Sapphire card honestly, as I haven't heard how well the Hercules overclocks..

5. soundcard looks good... I'm partial to my Turtle Beach Santa Cruz though.. Still an excellent card.. (not that the audigy 2 isn't)

Damn, gotta be nice winnin' 5 grand.. So how'd ya win it? slots, poker?

speaking of poker, and getting off topic a bit.. I've been watching this World Poker Championships on ESPN. My wife is totally into it now, she wants to find another 4 or 5 people to play poker every week.. LOL!!!

I won on the pokies (u guys in america call them "slots"). I literally only through down a couple of bucks :D

"Yeah gotta get Raptors. those things are smokin' fast, you'll be happy with it"

Raptors? Dinosaurs? :P

I've never heard of this product.

Ahem... Take a look then. :D

The one, the only WD Raptors. (http://www.westerndigital.com/en/products/WD360GD.asp)

Must be nice winning $5000, I've never won any money. :(

Thanks chuck232.

Ill include 2 of those drives then. I always thought IBM had the best fastest drives but then again i guess each company has its days.
But getting 2xsata drives runnin @ 10,000 rpm is gonna be nice.
OMFG, they even have 8 meg of cache.
I was thinkin gettin scsi360 cards and drives. I bought the adaptec3940 in its hay day and loved it. I've just got too see how much money's left i guess.

Ahh.. don't bother. Those 2x36GB 10K babies in RAID and you'll get pretty much SCSI performance.

Money would be better spent elsewhere.

Does any know a good week P4c to buy?

if youre going to use promethia mach 2, get a P4 3.2 GHz processor and aim for 4+ GHz...

If money is no object you could also opt for a dual Xeon rig OCed to 800FSB, there are nice threads about this in the SMP forum.

PC4200 ram? Can this be true? Has anyone gotten it and used it?
I wanted to gettin the rig in the next couple of days but honestly I just got a new job at a computer store. So im thinkin now I've got even more money.
This has to be my most luckies week. Too many things going right and im waiting for the ballon to pop :/

I'd say that Radeon 9800 Pro has some real balls unlike the FX's.

Yes, that's true... PC4000 is somewhat more abundant nowadays... I'd wait for the OCZ PC4000 though since the PC3700 Gold did so well, I'm hoping the PC4000 Gold will do even better.

I just want to be able to post a thread that says "Got plenty of money to build an OC rig" someday...

:D :D :D :p :p

me too..

rudski, if you got plenty of money, why not just wait for a prescott? Should be out any day now...

well I just built a 2.4B/IS7...but I wish someday I could say "Got plenty of money to build an OC rig"...LOL

Umm when the prescott comes out...it'll probably be expensive at first that I can't afford it. plus, they're having all sorts of power issues and socket issues to work out..
so by the time when it's all figured out...it would probably be at least 6 to 8 months down the road...

I can't wait that long...I have a repuation to protect on Quake3 Excessive ya know...lol

make sure to get a PC power and cooling Power Supply, they are top notch but super expensive, but your budget seems to be able to fit it in :) and it will last you into the next and next after that computer probably as well
i have an ic7 myself, if i had to do it over again i might have gotten the asus p4c800 though, because the ic7 has an inaccurate thermal sensor and it bugs me. but if you wanna stick with abit get the ic7g. also if you go with the ic7, dont get corsair, thats what my friend got and he had extreme compatibiltiy problems (corsair pc3200c2 at least), his mobo wouldnt work at anything over 5:4 at stock speed... when he tried my buffalo pc3700 it worked fine. so he had to send the corsairs back twice.

Hmmm... probably the best best mobo out there is the ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe. All the high end features and very stable.

One thing I prefer about the ABIT boards is the oodles of tweaking options though... People are all like, ooh oh, disable the third option under the second of the chipset features advanced performance etc.. and I'm sitting here looking at my sad sad P4P800 BIOS in comparison. :p
