What does it mean when it says "Duron 800 OEM. What does "OEM" mean?

It means that it doesnt come in the RETAL AMD box, and usually doesnt come with all of the manuals and stuff like that, and also doesnt come with a Heatsink or Fan, and is usually just the CPU inside, and notin else.

OEM stands for Original Equipment Market. it's a part that was designed to be inserted into and be sold with an entire PC. OEM CPU's come in a big tray, they are not sealed. so the deal with those is dealers (if they are overclockers) can pre-test the chips and weed out the good ones to remark or sell as "guaranteed XXX MHz" or whatever. I havent found this to be a problem with the socket A AMD chips. I have built 3 overclocked Duron systems and the varied results I get (950, 850 and 800 MHz out of Duron 700's, with different cooling, granted) lead me to believe that the vendors I am doing business with are not pre-testing. As far as other components (video, sound cards, etc) buying OEM means you get the card and a driver CD most of the time - no software bundle or extras. Good deal most of the time since all that extra stuff is crap 90% of the time anyway.

When buying OEM, keep in mind that you will also be getting less of a warranty (if at all), and limited manufacturer support in some cases.
