After you unlock your chip, you are now able to change the multiplier on your chip, either in BIOS or by jumper, depending on your mobo.

Being able to change the multiplier alows you more freedom in overclocking. If you have say a 900mhz chip it will report a multiplier to the motherboard of 9x. You use this in conjuction with the FSB spped to get the speed of your chip. So in the above example with a FSB of 100mhz you end up setting the CPU as a 900mhz chip. If you were to change the FSB to 101mhz you then would have 910mhz. The problem is some motherboards do not react kindly to change the FSB to much. Mine for instance gets all kinda pist off if I change it to anything above about 105mhz or so. You can see how this would be limiting. Unlocking the CPU allows you to "trick" the computer into thinking you have, for instance, a 950mhz CPU if you were to set the multiplier at 9.5x.

I don't have that trouble. Iwill KK-266 w/ T-Bird 750 @1000 (7.5*133) Gotta love them kt133a chip sets.. I have noticed that my bios reports default at 1.81 vcore I dropped it down to 1.60 setting and it gave 1.71vcore. I suppose I'll run there for a while and see how the stability goes. Should have my pen tomorrow to unlock this thing. Any reason I should hit any of the other bridges besides the L1's? I keep seeing people saying they had to do their L6 and L7, is that necessary?

The L7 bridges have to do with voltage increases. there is a pretty good explanation at http://www4.tomshardware.com/cpu/00q3/000711/index.html
