View Full Version : Ok seriously now 2.4c or 2.6c?
I'm on the verge of buying either one, money will not be a factor during my purchase. I just want to know which cpu is likely to hit 3.4+ and which one will get the higher fsb while maintaining a 1:1 ratio. Keep in mind that this will be air cooled.
This is what I plan on getting:
CPU - 2.4C or 2.6C
MB - P4P800-DLX
RAM - OCZ 3700 GOLD
HSF - SK-900U
Case - Coolermaster ATC-710
Vid - 9800Pro 256
SND - o/b
HD - 2x 36 GB WD Raptors

Hitting 3.4GHz will definately be easier with a 2.6C (higher multiplier), but it's also possible with the 2.4C.
If you are looking at a 1:1 ratio, hmmm...honestly, if you're going with a 1:1 ratio you might consider a 2.8C. If not that, then the 2.6C. Mine runs 3.4GHz no problemo.. I have more room, but my memory is holding me back for now..
- A 1:1 with 250fsb would yield 3.25GHz for the 2.6C compared to 3.0GHz for the 2.4C. A 2.8C would be 3.5GHz with a 2.8C (not sure if everyone is reaching those speeds though..)
If I was going 1:1 ratio, I'd either get the 2.6C or the 2.8C.
If I was going with a 5:4 ratio and the max fsb I could get, then I'd get the 2.4C (you won't hit the max GHz wall nearly as fast).
which is more important, 1:1 ratio, or highest possible fsb?

I have to agree with mattspalace.....
after all, you'll only lose about 5% performance with a 5/4 ratio, as compared to 1/1.
if high ghz and a 1/1 ratio is a must, then the 2.8c may be a better choice. even if you don't reach 250fsb, you'll be close to it, and you'r ghz as well as ram timmings should both be nice.

If you are set on running the 1:1 with the OCZ Gold then you should go with at least the 2.8C, but for best bang for your buck 2.4C with 5:4 on the OCZ would get you there.

I'm only modelerately pleased with my 2.6c. Corsair ddr400 & IC7, on air with pumped up voltages and relazed mem setting I'm lucky to get 3.2 I'm on a phillipines chip tho - not supposedly one of the better at overclocking.
I'd say a 2.8c if you can afford it or then a 2.4c. Go 2.6c if you can gt a malay or costa only.

HRPufnStuf,
WELCOME TO THE FORUMS.
hey, If you like, you can PM me......
maybe we can get a better result from your cpu.

Had a 2.6C that would only do 252FSB 3.28Ghz @1.75V. Got an OEM 2.4C with 1 year warranty for 170.66 from Newegg this morning. 285FSB 3.4Ghz @ 1.5875V  and climbing. Prime Torture run over 2 hrs @ 285, Sandra Burnin 1 hr, Super Pi 32M, PcMark2003, 3Dmark01, running out of test so I think it is time to go higer. Temps 49C load and 33 Idle. I need new ram and possibly more cooling, but 300 is coming. See sig for rest of rig
Go get a 2.4C OEM

Hmmmm... I think in your case, I'd go for either a 2.4C or a 2.8C. You see, a 2.4C at ~3.4GHz woulb be ~285MHz FSB. Using the 5:4 divider, you'd get DDR456. Now, a 2.6C at ~3.4GHz would be ~260MHz FSB, and that at 1:1 would be DDR520... not necessarily possible for even the PC3700 Gold. A 2.8C at ~250MHz and 1:1 would probably give you the best performance, but is it worth the extra money?
Code 4, what is the fpo/batch # of your 2.4 oem?
L310A735 Week 10 Malay. Here is a link to a bunch of other 2.4C's and what they have done: 2.4C's (http://www.abxzone.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=492633#post492633) There is some good info in this thread and you might be able to get an idea of what some peeps have done with their 2.4C's.

the only problem I see is that:
2.4c week 10 malay's can do this easy...
malay's after week 10 seem to do OK as well.
but most 2.4c's only do 3.2-3.4ghz, and 3.2ghz seems closer to the norm. that's 270fsb...too much for 1/1, and 5/4 only is 216.

I just bought from the egg about a week ago and got an malay week 18. It will go all day at 300fsb and prime for 3 hours at 305fsb

nimrod, 300fsb for a 2.4c is like in the 90+ percentile, you are one lucky ocer :D
What is your vcore running if you don't mind my asking
Oh yeah and can I buy your chip? lol

what I think your saying is 300fsb is like in the 10+/- percentile.
LOL
anyway, just for added info:
week 10 and week 20 seem to be the best for malay....
yet a week or two before or after the above dates seem to be OK as well.
malay's may not be much of a factor today, it seems like the week #'s are more important....
but it is always a gamble.
btw, nimrod0031, nice OC.

Nice. I have the same ? as substratus and 2 others. What is the volt core? What cooling? What Temps, load/idle? Also, list the rest of your rig details if you do not mind. Thanks

 Some people get all the luck don't they? ;)
Anyone know of any retailers that are willing to look for specific fpo/batch #'s for you?
