How do i convince my dad to let me make a WINDOW in my case?

Sorry for the long title but i need help. I just bought my second computer, this is my first built rig and i love it. I really like my case and im still wondering weather i really wanna put a window in it but heres the PROBLEM, when i mentioned it to my dad he is like why do you need a window, why do you want a window , why would you cut such a nice case. He got me on the last one, i just couldnt take it, i tried explaining it would let me see the internals of my comp and i could put a blue light in there and it would make it look really cool. Its the same as why do ppl supe up cars...but he kept pinning me down.

HOW DO I CONVINCE HIM?! help.... if i ever want to install a window im gonna first need to talk him into letting me do it on my case...somehow i just hate if he doesnt understand it the same way as me..plz help guys..

tell him it can improve cooling, this increasing the components' lifespans. (add a fan in the window :-)

and if he says just put a fan in the side panel, say since you're already cuttin, might as well do the window. it can also make it quieter and lighter from the plexi/lexan.

With a window you can look and make sure all fans/hardware are working without having to take the side of the case off taking a chance of more dust getting in the case which can cause ESD with will kill a system...don't mention anything about any lighting or other mods until after you have the side window installed...

And if you paid for it...simple as this...I paid for it...and I want a window in it :D...

tell him that if you mess it up, you will buy a new case. And then of course, you won't mess up and will have a sweet looking rig! And then your dad will have more confidence in your modding ability.

Another way to approach it:

BUILDING a computer is not something that everyone can do (well....it IS but 99% of people are too nervous or just don't have the desire to build).
You built the pc and you are proud of it, and the way it looks INSIDE: you want to show it off.

Personally, I think that and the ability to visually monitor hardware will probably get him to at least understand your viewpoint and probably get you permission for a window. :)

THe thing is i cant buy another case and he knows it, i spent all my money on this rig and the case wasnt that cheap.
Thus, another reason why i probably wont install a window, damn antec doesnt make spare side panels for the antec sonata. I dont want a side panel with a window already in it, it s just i rather be able to be another SIDEPANEL if i MESS this one up. So i guess il wait till then because im just to nervous to cut the beautful case..i mean its really really nice.

errrrr your dad has a point the sonata has to be one of the nicest looking cases I've seen I wanted to buy one but they are alot... personally I think no matter how well you do that window it wont make it look better.

the thing that I glean from your posts is that you're not even sure if you want to do a window. The Sonata looks great as-is, so if you're not absolutely sure you want to change it, don't.

Ya i really like the sonata as is, but then no bragging rights/ modslol maybe i justput an el cable in the punched out antec thingy.
you can see it n this pic. those punched out holes that antec has made, think i fi put and EL cable behind it , it would look cool. What color would look the best (in your opinion), im thinking red or blue.

If you want to do a window mod, just do it. Who cares if your dad dosent want you to. What would he do if you did it?..its just a PC case. But thats just me and BTW Blue would look sweet, I love blue and black together.

Leave it as-is for a couple weeks, and when you really get the burning desire to do it.... DO IT! :D.

Show your dad pics of other cases with windows in them, from the basic rectangle, to the really wild ones. That will surely change his mind in your favor. :)

Dont be worried about cutting up the hole... If you get the window kit with molding that the plexi fits into, then you can screw up slightly and its not noticeable.

Drill a hole, and then use a nibbler. Much cleaner in my opinion, aside from having thousands of metal chad on the floor/desk.. and the blisters from using the nibbler... but it really really does work nicely. The only hard part is getting the plexi to go in the rubber molding along with fitting it into that darned hole. My case sat for over a week with a hole in it because I couldn't get the molding in place.

Why don't u get him to read this thread if u want him to understand why u want to do it. There are very good opinions on this issue from many different individuals. It beats trying to explain it to him. Plus it's another point of view besides yours that may help in convincing him. But honestly if it was me, I'd just go ahead and do it cuz no one can stop me. The case is mine to mess with. Nothin anyone can do about it once it's over and done with right? :) My 2 cents :)

Hey axlecrusher, what did you use to cut the side of your case? it looks slightly chewed up..? or is that just the piciture , mind you im not doggin your work .. it looks great just wondering about the edge .. :p

Yea, I use some steal cutting scissors. The dremmel cutting wheels were not to good cutting steel. The edges do look like crap, they will look better if I ever get around to buying some window molding.

An idea: keep the side panel off for a month. Then, your dont wont even notice what you do with it.

I havent put my side panel on since i got the system (since january). Anyway, im sure that my dad wont give if i throw out my panel (let alone mod it) since its lying in dust.

Anyway, if you keep the panel off it could work. However, thats a lengthy alternative. You could just repeat "Can i make a window?" over and over until he lets you... Or pounds you into the ground. Either one's fine.

Well ill tell you what I did. One day I got the idea "I want a window" So I ran down to radioshack and got a nibbler. I started hackin away (it was a humid 100F day) it took me about 4 hrs. BUt the thing is is FUgED up. WHen my parents saw it they said wtf did u do. IM like what u dont like it? There like w/e its your computer as long as you dont start a fire im fine wit it. So then about a month later i just bought a case wit a window stock lol

dont put a window in it just some how with velcro or some thing mod a lexan peice to your case instead of the side panel that way u dont ruin your case you have a really big window and your dads not mad @ you that what i did when i first modded my comp made a plezi glass window it looks really cool with lights and u can see every thing inside no prob
