View Full Version : K6-III+ @ 550 MHz?
Hello, I currently own a K6-2 500 and am looking to upgrade, preferably in both clock speed an processor type. I've heard rumors about the K6-III+ chip and its .18 manufacturing... but it is a beast to find. I am also not sure if a 550 version was ever made, which is what I'm looking for. Does anyone know where I can get a K6-III+, what kind of clockspeed I can find, and if not... where a good place is to get a regular K6-III? Thanks.
I do know they did mak a K6-2 550, My roomate has one but I think it was just a 500 that did very well on the tests and they just marked it as a 550.

They have an ad in the April issue of Computer Shopper that lists the K6III+450 for $71.00. I've used this chip several times on FIC AV503+ motherboards with very good results. On the 503+ you need to get a BIOS update no. "JE4330" Bump the voltage up to 2.1 / 2.2 (default voltage is 2.0v on the + chips) set the multiplier to 2X ( the CPU has been reworked to recognize it as 6X). It will be identified as 560MHz during POST but tests will confirm it really at 600MHZ.
I find this to be a very good path to upgrading the super 7 platform if a new motherboard / cpu are not in the plans. Also a good way to get a bit more life from some of those legacy cards, ie....modems, NIC's etc.
