Every time i O/C my system to high the mobo will not boot to the bios. and the only way to boot i have to clear the cmos and that sucks, have to reset it all .is there any way to avoid that. is it the bios version ?

well, sounds typical to me, what bios version do you have, 1005 is the latest, check under, start, programs, accessories, system tools, system information

It is 1005 . my a7v8x would still boot and just go to the frequency in the bios to be changed . is the new via kt 600 good ?

Well, being new to OCing myself, I would think if the cpu was oced too much, then it won't start up or pass any test, that means it can't get into the bios since everything will stop. SO it sounds normal to me.

Clearing the cmos will reset it so the cpu will pass again and you can get into the bios.

What about the jumper that changes the FSB to run only at 100, maybe that will work to reset the cpu clock, so you don't have to take the battery out.

With my A7N8X Rev 2.0 with bios 1005, I haven't had the cpu fail yet (haven't pushed it beyond 200fsb), but my ram would constantly fail tests in dual channel when the FSB is at 200. Luckily the ram will run fine like that in single channel, so I only have to take a stick out to get into the bios, not clear the cmos.

I'm runnign at 185fsb*11.5 and it seems pretty stable.

Start ocing at 175fsb, then increase it 5 each time after it's able to post (while using some low multiplier of 10). Once you can't get into the bios, clear the cmos and set it back to the last good setting, then with a higher mulitplier. Though, for me, even if I got into the bios with 200*11, I'd get errors in windows, possibly because of cheap ram. So even after you find the highest fsb you can go, it still might be too much when it comes to things in windows, even thought the board posts fine. Since my ram isn't as good, I had to focus on how high the multiplier could go at a slight FSB OC on my 2500+

I have gotten my cpu to 202 fbs and 11.5 with aggressive timings on the memory.
when i slack the memory it will not boot .
but i run now stable 200x11@2200 mhz. A 2500 barton and the whole system is on aggressive runnign 105F. 41c and load 136F 58c.
and that is on a thermaltake volcano 9 , i bought a slk800u and its in the mail. Will that HSF help my cooling allot?

800u, I hear it's the best. 900u is bigger, so probably better, but doesn't fit hardly anything.

Also, the 800u can be many things depending on what fan you put on it. I quiet fan makes it a heatsink that cools well for decent ocing while being quiet. With a stronger louder fan, it can be used for some pretty good ocing.

What fan did you get for it?

I also bet your looking forward to removing you mobo to install it :)

well gona use the thermaltake smart fan off my volcano 9.with speed control , that was good in the reviews.

im going to build a new system. mobo-p4c800 e deluxe and the 2,8 ghz p4 800mhz fbs and use all my existing hardware . think that will be good enough?

What's wrong with your 2500+ at 2200mhz. A 2.8c wouldn't justify an upgrade over that unless you expect the 2.8c to be a good ocer. That 2.8c cost $270 right now and you have a 2500+ that cost 90 and performs as good or better than the 2.8c with ocing.

Why are you spending money on a new system when your current one is pretty good already. With that system, similar to what I just upgraded to, should last you long enough til the Athlon 64 or possibly the P5s come out, then I'd upgrade.

Actually, what do you get in 3Dmark 03 and 01se with that 9800pro on that system. It's similar to my new set-up

I just got a 2500+ 185*11.5 (2127mhz) default vcore

Mines 5049 last time I ran it. Do you think that's good for a 9700pro? I understand your 9800pro is oced and the cpu fsb is higher, but the mhz is near the same as mine. I haven't really tweaked anything besides ocing. Do you think my 5049 score is ok, or can it be higher with some work.

(note, my fsb was diff when I recorded this)

vkvenom,

not right forum, but i can never get a response in the ati thread, how did you overclock you ati, i have no idea hot to get into the bios and overclock it

thanx

I think there is a way to enable the overclocking slider panel in advance properties. There are probably several 3D tweak software that do this for the radeons, the only one off the top of my head at the moment is "Rage3D Tweak" at www.rage3d.com there could be better ways, though.

Actually, check out the forums there, it has to be, if not the largest forum for ati cards. You should easily get responses there about overclocking. As an ATI card owner, that site is something you should not go without, it's a must.

ATI Catalyst makers and some other ATI tech even post there now and then. On one recent CATs release, they were answering peoples questions for part of the day in the main thread for that release. How much better can that forum be?

i thought that heatsink didnt fit on a a7n8x or was it the 900

when my computer doesnt post i just turn off the power switch on the back of my psu and when i turn it back on it resets it at 100fsb. Will this damage anything and should i use the clearsmos thing instead?

i don't see why you're having to reset cmos... shut down the computer by flipping the psu switch, start it up and it should boot fine...

if that doesn't work, hold down insert when you start up and that will reset the cpu info...

yeah, sometimes it just needs a rest, a couple of times i tried to reboot and it wouldn't, i just waited a couple of minutes, then it started right up
