View Full Version : FSB BIOS options for Athlon MP boards
I currently have a K7D board. But I would like to get another Athlon MP rig, but this time I want to do some serious FSB overclocking. I know the K7D tops out at 150. I would like to know my options in terms of FSB Athlon MP mbs. Are there any boards with finer selection (100mhz-250mhz) and in smaller steps like 1 mhz?
I dont know personally, but Ive heard that the iWill board has a much higher fsb option in its bios.
However, nearly anyone thats used one hasnt gotten too high. I cant say for sure, but I think I saw someone was able to reach 175?! Not to sure. Its the chipset that limits it, severely really.
150 is about the best you can get from pretty much everything around.
If you actually do start looking at the iWill, good luck this board is now near impossible to find. Think they quit making them?!

Yeah, the Iwill goes up to 250, but the highest I have seen ANYONE get with it is 180 and that was with really specific parts. All 66 MHz PCI cards, running in 33 MHz slots, all SCSI system, and massive cooling.
The Asus goes up to 180, but it doesn't really overclock that well. I don't think I've seen anyone that has been able to get it past 140-150.
The Iwill was discontinued a long time ago. I've heard that the Asus was recently discontinued, but I'm not sure how accurate this is.

I wouldn't be surprised if all AMD dual [socket A] mobos get discontinued fairly soon after the Opertron gets a decent quantity of hardware out in the field. AMD needs people to buy their high-end stuff if they want to stay in business. They're going broke fast in their current market segment. So if you want the AMD bang-for-the-buck dual platform in the future, you better get it sooner rather than later.

You mean "Socket A", right?
I don't know. The chipset is already around. AMD doesn't make the motherboards, other third-party manufacturers do. I have a feeling that these will stay on the market longer than you think.

I think it all depends on how much MP chipset stock is built up and if AMD is still building them.
BTW I noticed newegg doesn't have the MSI Master L in stock right now. Any other highly reseller rated vendors have them?
