i have the corsair pc3200 cas2 512mb 1 chip and the stock timings are 2-3-3-6 but i can also run it at 2-2-2-5. would it be better to run the timing at 2-2-2-5 instead? if i do does that make the memory faster or something?

Yes, running at 2-2-2-5 will be better than stock timings. You can read this article on memory timings.

Are you using an AMD or Intel system? A lot of AMD guys are seeing better performance setting their memory to 2-2-2-11 or so.
