here's my situation. i have 1 300 wat supply and a backup 200 wat running the drives. this bloody 300 still can't provide the 2.4 vcore and 3.86 VI/O that I need. is it just a bad psu? or do i need mor than 300 + 200?

I would highly recommend using two identical PSU makes and models if you intend to parallel them for more wattage. Your typical 300W supply can source about 145W of combined power to the +5 and +3.3 outputs. I can tell you that a single 400W supply with 245W of combined +5 and +3.3 will start to collapse around 2.3V and above, on the core. Two 300W PSUs can theoretically source 290W. Bang for buck, that is the way I would go if I were brave enough to parallel two switching supplies. I believe there are both 500+ and 600+ single ATX PSUs available. Ideally, that is the way to go, but the price really goes up above about 430W.
